About the Role
We are looking for strong Android Developers at the SDE II and SDE III levels to build and scale a high engagement consumer technology platform.
You will take ownership of critical Android modules, translate product ideas into reliable user experiences, and solve challenges related to performance, scalability, real time interactions, offline behaviour, and device compatibility. This role requires strong Android fundamentals, product thinking, and the ability to deliver production grade applications independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain high quality Android applications using Kotlin
- Build responsive and reusable user interfaces using Jetpack Compose
- Own features from technical design and development through release and post production monitoring
- Work with Product, Design, Backend, AI, Security, and Quality Engineering teams to deliver seamless user experiences
- Integrate REST APIs, WebSockets, push notifications, analytics, authentication, and third party services
- Improve application startup time, rendering performance, battery usage, memory consumption, and crash rates
- Develop reliable offline first experiences using local storage, caching, and data synchronisation
- Write modular, testable, and maintainable code using established architecture patterns
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, sprint planning, and production troubleshooting
- Monitor application health using crash reporting, analytics, logging, and performance monitoring tools
- Maintain security standards for user data, API communication, local storage, and application releases
- Support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, Play Store releases, staged rollouts, and production monitoring
Core Technical Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Android SDK
- Hands on experience with Jetpack Compose and modern Android development practices
- Strong understanding of Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, StateFlow, and asynchronous programming
- Experience with MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, or similar scalable architectural approaches
- Experience with Android Jetpack components such as ViewModel, Navigation, Room, WorkManager, and DataStore
- Strong understanding of dependency injection using Hilt, Dagger, or Koin
- Experience integrating REST APIs, WebSockets, Firebase, push notifications, and deep links
- Knowledge of local databases, caching strategies, pagination, background processing, and data synchronisation
- Strong understanding of Android lifecycle, threading, memory management, networking, and application performance
- Experience writing unit tests and UI tests using JUnit, MockK, Espresso, or Compose Testing
- Familiarity with Git, Gradle, CI/CD pipelines, Play Console, release management, and production debugging
- Good understanding of Material Design and the ability to translate Figma designs into polished Android experiences
Level ExpectationsSDE II
- Typically 4 to 6 years of Android development experience
- Independently owns complex features and modules
- Writes clean, testable, and production ready code
- Makes sound implementation and component level design decisions
- Identifies and resolves performance, stability, and usability issues
- Contributes meaningfully to code reviews and engineering standards
SDE III
- Typically 6 to 9 years of Android development experience
- Owns architecture and delivery of major application areas
- Makes system level decisions affecting scalability, reliability, and maintainability
- Drives improvements in performance, testing, observability, security, and release quality
- Mentors Android engineers and raises the overall technical standard of the team
- Collaborates with engineering leadership on roadmap planning, technical tradeoffs, and risk management
- Leads investigation and resolution of complex production issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building high scale B2C, social media, community, messaging, content, or consumer applications
- Experience implementing real time feeds, chat, media upload, notifications, recommendation surfaces, or social interactions
- Experience with modular Android architecture and multi module codebases
- Familiarity with media processing, CameraX, ExoPlayer or Media3, image loading, and upload optimisation
- Understanding of Android security, certificate pinning, encryption, obfuscation, and secure data storage
- Published or actively maintained applications on the Google Play Store
- Experience working in fast paced product or startup environments
