A Hindi Language Teacher in an American school is expected to teach Hindi as a foreign/second language, design engaging lessons across grade levels, and foster cultural appreciation while ensuring students achieve language proficiency. The role combines classroom instruction, curriculum development, and student assessment with a strong emphasis on communication skills and cultural integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching & Instruction
- Deliver Hindi language lessons to students from Pre-School through Elementary/Middle/High School, depending on school needs.
- Teach reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in Hindi.
- Introduce students to Hindi literature, culture, and traditions to build contextual understanding.
- Curriculum Development
- Prepare lesson plans aligned with the American school curriculum framework (often IB, AP, or Common Core adapted).
- Incorporate interactive methods such as role-play, storytelling, songs, and multimedia resources.
- Adapt teaching strategies for different proficiency levels (beginners vs. advanced learners).
- Assessment & Evaluation
- Design and administer tests, quizzes, and oral assessments to evaluate student progress.
- Provide constructive feedback and maintain records of student performance.
- Support students in preparing for language proficiency exams if applicable.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with the Language Department Head and Academic Coordinators.
- Participate in faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school events.
- Collaborate with other teachers to integrate Hindi into cross-disciplinary projects.
Qualifications & Skills
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s/Master’s in Hindi, Language Studies, or Education.
- Certifications: Teaching license or equivalent; IB/International curriculum familiarity preferred.
- Experience: Prior teaching experience in international or bilingual schools is highly valued.
- Skills:
- Strong command of Hindi and English for bilingual communication.
- Ability to use technology and digital tools in language teaching.
- Cultural sensitivity and enthusiasm for promoting diversity
