You will lead and manage all direct tax matters for Mondelez India, ensuring full compliance with Indian tax laws, proactive audit defense, strategic tax planning, and transfer pricing governance. You will serve as the primary point of contact for India direct tax matters, partnering with business, finance, and global tax teams to deliver value and mitigate risk. You will report to Direct Tax Lead.
Job Profile Summary
You will manage all local Direct Tax matters for Mondelez India, including compliance and local audit defence; local tax planning and transfer pricing; and subject matter expertise for accounting for income tax matters. As an SG Grade 9 professional, you will operate as a senior subject matter expert, driving tax strategy and ensuring robust governance across the India tax landscape.
How You Will Contribute
- Direct Tax Compliance: Own and manage the end-to-end Direct Tax compliance process for Mondelez India, including preparation and filing of corporate income tax returns, advance tax computations, TDS/TCS compliance and returns, ensuring tax documentation for foreign remittances, and all related filings under the Income Tax Act, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and adherence to tax laws.
- Manage Tax Assessments & Litigation: Leverage SAP / ERP modules to independently extract, reconcile, and analyse large-volume financial data for tax notices. Independently interact with internal stakeholders, accounting team, to collate the required data to prepare replies to the tax notices, follow-up with tax office for refunds, rectifications etc. Work as a team player on tax litigation strategy for Income tax assessments, appeals, and litigation matters (CIT(A), ITAT, High Court).
- Drive Transfer Pricing Compliance: Oversee transfer pricing documentation, benchmarking studies, and compliance filings (Form 3CEB).
- Provide Strategic Tax Advisory: Monitor changes in Indian tax legislation (including the New Income Tax Act 2025 and related rules), judicial precedents, and CBDT circulars/notifications. Provide proactive guidance to the Tax Head and business teams on the tax impact of business decisions, restructurings, and new initiatives.
- Support Tax Accounting & Reporting: Provide local tax expertise to the Tax Accounting team for quarterly and annual tax provisions (ASC 740 / Ind AS 12), deferred tax computations, and effective tax rate analysis. Ensure alignment between tax compliance positions and financial reporting.
- Optimize Processes & Leverage Technology: Develop and continually improve standard Direct Tax compliance processes and ways of working. Identify opportunities to leverage technology and digital tools to improve operational efficiency, accuracy, and governance.
- Manage Stakeholder Relationships: Contribute to a high-performing Tax team for India. Actively manage relationships with external advisors and consultants, tax authorities, and internal business partners across Finance, Legal, and Supply Chain.
What You Will Bring

- TECHNICAL EXPERTISE: Deep knowledge of Indian direct tax laws (Income Tax Act, 1961 / New Income Tax Act 2025), transfer pricing regulations, DTAA provisions, and CBDT guidelines. Hands-on experience in tax compliance, assessments, appellate proceedings, and tax planning. Familiarity with international tax concepts APA, MAP is a plus.
- BUSINESS ACUMEN: Strong understanding of business operations and finance beyond the tax function. Ability to translate complex tax matters into actionable business insights. Minimum 8-10 years of relevant Direct Tax experience in industry or a combination of Big 4/consulting and industry roles.
- LEADERSHIP SKILLS: Proven ability to partner with senior business leaders, manage cross-functional projects, and influence without authority. Strong communication skills to present complex tax positions clearly to non-tax stakeholders. Experience managing external advisors and co-source teams.
- GROWTH/DIGITAL MINDSET: Ability to identify strategic opportunities and leverage technology (tax automation tools, ERP systems like SAP) to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness. Comfort with data analytics and digital transformation initiatives.
- INTEGRITY: Sound judgement in all decisions and interactions, aligned with Mondelēz values and policies, and external regulations. High ethical standards and commitment to transparency.
Qualifications
- Education: Chartered Accountant (CA) from ICAI. A Law degree or additional qualification in taxation (e.g., LL. B, Diploma in Taxation) is preferred.
- Experience: 8-10 years of progressive direct tax experience, with a strong preference for candidates with a mix of Big 4/professional services and multinational industry experience.
- Industry: FMCG/Consumer Goods or large multinational experience preferred.
