· Patient Care (the planning, assessment, implementation, and evaluation phases of care are a
continuous process from the point of receiving the patient from the ward until the conclusion
of the operative procedure and is conducted within the vicinity of the Operating Theatre.
· Obtain and document a patient assessment that incorporates all available data/information.
· Utilize techniques of observation, interview, measurement, and physical examination in
making an assessment.
· Identify from assessment actual and potential problems in collaboration with the patient
and senior nursing personnel.
· Plan and document a nursing care plan using the nursing process.
· Plan prioritizing nursing care.
· Refer problems with less predictable outcomes to senior nursing personnel.
· Continually update the nursing care plan as patient status demands.
· Commence discharged planning as soon as it is feasible in cooperation with the patient
and significant others.
· Demonstrate same in the written care plan.
· Deliver care using the nursing process, setting priorities in the written care.
· Delegate and supervise nursing care delivered by junior Staff Nurses.
· Co-ordinate care delivered by other health professionals
· Communicate patient’s status to other members of the healthcare team.
· Participate in the performance appraisal of new Staff Nurses.
· Advise Nurse ND of malfunctioning equipment.
· Utilize resources effectively and efficiently.
· Participate in Nursing Quality Assurance programs.
· Encourage staff participation in unit-based Nursing Quality Assurance programs.
· Identify unsafe care practices and contribute to corrective actions.
· Support the hospital's policies and procedures.
· Attend nursing meetings on a regular basis.
· Participate in professional organizations.
· Maintain current trends in nursing practice and management through formal education
and self-development efforts.

The Individual: (qualification and experience)
Essential
- BSc or Diploma (GNM) in Nursing from an accredited university / institute
- Proven work with a nursing supervisor.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the OT or critical care department.
