Designation: Intensivist / Critical Care Consultant
Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Reports To: Medical Director / Chief Medical Officer
Job Summary
The Intensivist is responsible for the comprehensive management of critically ill patients admitted to the ICU. The role involves diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, emergency interventions, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring quality patient care in accordance with hospital protocols and clinical standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients in the ICU.
- Develop and implement treatment plans based on patient conditions.
- Monitor vital signs, laboratory reports, and clinical progress.
- Perform critical care procedures such as:
- Endotracheal intubation
- Central venous catheter insertion
- Arterial line placement
- Mechanical ventilation management
- Hemodynamic monitoring
- Manage patients with sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiac emergencies, trauma, and multi-organ dysfunction.
Patient Care & Safety
- Ensure adherence to infection control and patient safety protocols.
- Conduct daily ICU rounds and document patient progress.
- Coordinate patient transfers to and from ICU.
- Counsel patients' families regarding treatment plans and prognosis.
Team Coordination
- Work closely with specialists, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Guide and supervise ICU nurses and junior doctors.
- Participate in emergency response teams and Code Blue management.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards and hospital policies.
- Maintain accurate medical records and ICU documentation.
- Participate in clinical audits, mortality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualification
- MBBS with MD/DNB in Anaesthesia, General Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, or Critical Care.
- Fellowship/DM/DNB in Critical Care Medicine preferred.
- Valid Medical Council Registration.
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of ICU/Critical Care experience preferred.
- Experience in managing ventilators and critical care emergencies.

Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts, including nights and weekends.
- On-call availability for critical emergencies.
Location: ICU Department, Prabhu Multi-Speciality Hospital & Polyclinic, Pollachi.
Pay: ₹153,266.32 - ₹730,516.01 per month
