Job Description: Coal Washery Operator Position Summary The Coal Washery Operator is responsible for the daily operation, monitoring, and routine maintenance of machinery used to process, clean, and beneficiate raw coal. The primary goal is to safely and efficiently separate impurities (such as ash, slate, and rock) from raw coal to meet client specifications and maximize yield. Key Responsibilities & Duties 1. Plant & Equipment Operation Operate and monitor core washery equipment, including crushers, vibrating screens, heavy media cyclones, jigs, flotation cells, pumps, and conveyor systems. Control the flow of raw coal into the washing plant, adjusting processing parameters via control panels or PLC systems to match production targets. Manage the mixing and ratio of water, magnetite, or sand to maintain the correct specific gravity required for effective gravity separation. 2. Process Monitoring & Quality Control Continuously monitor gauges, flow meters, and control screen readouts to ensure the plant operates at peak efficiency. Collect hourly/shift samples of raw coal, washed clean coal, middlings, and rejects for laboratory testing. Perform basic physical checks (e.g., moisture, size fraction, and visual ash content) and adjust settings (pulsation, water pressure, air control) to minimize the loss of usable coal in rejects. 3. Routine Maintenance & Troubleshooting Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections of mechanical components (rollers, gearboxes, chutes, and belt alignments) to prevent unexpected breakdowns. Perform minor routine maintenance, such as cleaning chokes from hoppers, clearing screen blinding, and basic greasing or lubrication of equipment. Identify operational faults, abnormal noises, or drop-offs in efficiency; troubleshoot basic issues or escalate major mechanical/electrical failures to the maintenance team. 4. Safety, Environment & Record Keeping Strictly adhere to the plant’s safety guidelines, including Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures during cleaning or maintenance. Operate dust suppression and water recycling systems to control fugitive emissions and ensure compliance with environmental norms. Maintain precise shift logs recording raw feed tonnage, clean coal yields, reject generation, and equipment downtime. Required Skills & Qualifications Education & Experience Education: High School Diploma / ITI (Mechanical/Electrical) or a Diploma in Mining/Mechanical Engineering preferred.
