Role Summary
The Purchase Manager will head the procurement function for the Electrical Trading business, catering to B2B (projects, contractors, institutional buyers) and B2C (retail, counter sales, distribution) channels. The role involves strategic sourcing, vendor partnerships, inventory optimization, and leading a team of purchase executives to ensure availability of fast-moving and project-specific electrical materials at optimal cost.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Procurement & Leadership
- Lead the complete purchase function for electrical trading across B2B and B2C verticals.
- Formulate procurement strategies based on sales forecasts, project pipelines, and retail demand patterns.
- Manage, mentor, and evaluate a team of purchase executives and coordinators.
- Align procurement plans with management goals for margin improvement, working-capital optimization, and growth.
Product & Category Management (Electricals)
- Handle procurement of electrical products including (but not limited to):
- LT/HT cables & wires
- Switchgears, MCBs, MCCBs, ACBs
- Panels, transformers, capacitors
- Lighting (LED, industrial & decorative)
- Fans & Appliances
- Allied Electrical & other products
- Develop category-wise sourcing strategies for fast-moving retail SKUs and project-based bulk materials.
Vendor & Brand Management
- Develop and manage relationships with OEMs, authorized distributors, and local manufacturers.
- Negotiate pricing, credit terms, schemes, rebates, and annual rate contracts.
- Finalize brand portfolios suitable for B2B projects as well as B2C retail competitiveness.
- Ensure vendor compliance with quality standards, certifications (ISI/BIS), and delivery commitments.
Inventory & Supply Chain Control
- Ensure optimum inventory levels across warehouses and retail counters.
- Balance availability of fast-moving items for B2C with just-in-time procurement for B2B projects.
- Coordinate with sales, projects, stores, and logistics teams to ensure uninterrupted supply.
- Monitor slow-moving, non-moving, and obsolete stock; initiate corrective actions.
Costing, Margins & Commercials
- Control procurement costs to maintain targeted gross margins in both B2B and B2C channels.
- Support sales teams with accurate costing for tenders, BOQs, and project quotations.
- Track price fluctuations in copper, aluminum, and other raw materials affecting electrical products.
- Work closely with finance on credit control, vendor payments, and working capital management.
Compliance, Systems & Reporting
- Ensure all purchases comply with company policies, statutory requirements, and audit norms.
- Implement and strengthen ERP-based procurement processes and documentation.
- Prepare MIS reports on purchases, vendor performance, inventory status, savings, and risks.
- Drive process improvements, automation, and standardization across procurement activities.
