A Transplant Coordinator in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) is the critical link between the patient, surgical teams, and regulatory bodies in Indian hospitals. They oversee both living and deceased transplant programs (such as heart and lung transplants), managing all clinical, legal, and emotional aspects of the transplant journey.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Patient Profiling & Work-up: Evaluate potential transplant recipients, coordinate pre-operative investigations, and assess patient eligibility according to clinical guidelines.
- Medico-Legal & Statutory Compliance: Ensure all procedures comply with the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA). Prepare and maintain documentation for hospital ethics committees and state authorities.
- Liaison with Registry Bodies: Coordinate with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO), SOTTO, and ZOTTO regarding organ allocation, waitlist management, and recipient matching.
- Organ Procurement & Transport: Manage logistics when a donor heart/lung becomes available. Coordinate with CTVS operating room (OT) staff, retrieval teams, and transport services for the timely harvesting and transfer of organs.
- Counseling & Education: Educate patients and their families about the transplant procedure, surgical risks, and post-operative lifestyle. Provide grief counseling and secure organ donation consent in cases of brain-dead donors.
- Post-Transplant Follow-ups: Track patient recovery, monitor compliance with immunosuppressive medications, and coordinate ongoing clinical management with the CTVS team.
Required Qualifications & Eligibility
- Educational Background: Master's degree in Social Work (MSW).
- Certifications: Certification in transplant coordination from recognized institutes is highly preferred.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in hospital administration and medical social work.
Pay: ₹300,000.00 - ₹450,000.00 per year
