Job Summary
The OT Staff Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive perioperative nursing care by preparing the operation theatre, assisting surgeons and anesthetists during surgical procedures, maintaining sterility, ensuring patient safety, and delivering high-quality nursing care in accordance with hospital protocols and NABH standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesPre-Operative Responsibilities
- Prepare and organize the operation theatre before surgeries.
- Verify patient identity, consent forms, investigations, and surgical site.
- Ensure availability and functionality of OT equipment and instruments.
- Prepare sterile instrument trays and surgical supplies.
- Assist in positioning and preparing the patient for surgery.
Intra-Operative Responsibilities
- Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques throughout procedures.
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and other healthcare professionals during surgeries.
- Perform duties as Scrub Nurse and Circulating Nurse as assigned.
- Monitor patient condition and report abnormalities immediately.
- Count instruments, needles, and surgical sponges before, during, and after surgery.
- Handle specimens appropriately and ensure proper labeling.
Post-Operative Responsibilities
- Assist in transferring patients safely to the recovery room or ICU.
- Complete OT documentation accurately.
- Ensure proper cleaning and sterilization of instruments.
- Prepare the OT for subsequent procedures.
- Report any equipment malfunction or adverse events.
