The dry syrup manufacturing process involves blending active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), sweeteners, and excipients into a uniform powder. This powder is often granulated for better flow, then packaged into airtight bottles. The mixture is later reconstituted with water by the patient, offering excellent stability for pediatric medicines. The production process is carefully controlled and consists of several key stages:
1. Dispensing and WeighingRaw materials, including APIs, sugars (for sweetness and volume), suspending agents, flavorings, and buffers, are precisely weighed according to the batch formulation.
2. Sieving and Pre-MixingAll powdered ingredients are passed through sieves to remove any large clumps or foreign particles. The sieved powders are then subjected to pre-mixing using equipment like a V-Blender or Double Cone Mixer to ensure homogeneous distribution.
3. Granulation (Optional)To prevent the powder from settling or clumping, ingredients may undergo granulation.
- Dry Granulation: Compresses the powder without liquid (ideal for moisture-sensitive APIs).
- Wet Granulation: Uses a small amount of liquid binder to form granules. If wet granulation is used, the mixture must be dried in industrial ovens and milled to a uniform particle size.
4. Final BlendingThe final powders or granules are transferred into a large-capacity stainless steel blender (like a double cone mixer). A key excipient for dispersion is mixed in stage one, and the remaining excipients (like flavoring and colors) are introduced in stage two.
5. Quality Control Testing Samples are taken to check for critical attributes such as moisture content, particle size uniformity, flowability, and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) content.
6. Filling and PackagingThe homogeneous powder blend is moved to an automated powder-filling machine. Exact doses are filled into sterile, airtight bottles. The bottles are sealed and labeled with instructions on how to reconstitute the powder with water before use
