As Team Leader - (MBE) - Emerging Technologies , your mission is to deliver state-of-the-art engineering services and solutions for the development of modelling-led technology initiatives related to compressors, vacuum systems, pumps, components, and new machine concepts. You will lead the MBE competence by advancing physical phenomena-based modelling , data-driven modelling , engineering calculations , and digital engineering practices , while fostering technical competence, best modelling practices, continuous improvement, and impactful contributions to innovation and product development.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Focus
- Lead timely execution of BDC / NPI / NPD / custom technology projects requiring modelling, simulation, and analytical support.
- Translate divisional/customer needs into clear work packages, modelling plans, assumptions, calibration strategy, and deliverables.
- Ensure effective communication with internal stakeholders through all phases of the project and proactively identify opportunities to enhance GECIA’s contribution toward technological advancement.
People Focus
- Build and coach a high-performing MBE team with strengths in thermodynamics, gas dynamics, thermal-fluid modelling, kinematics and dynamics, system/sub-system/component modelling, and digital engineering.
- Drive competence development roadmaps, structured knowledge sharing, and reusable methods and models across the team.
- Create strong team spirit around Driving Customer Success & Improving Business Results, while fostering a “CAN DO; WILL DO” mindset and a research-oriented culture.
Technology Focus
- Advance the team’s capabilities in physics-based modelling, data-driven modelling, dynamic and transient modelling, digital DOE, AI/ML-assisted MBE, surrogate modelling, and model reuse.
- Develop/ support in developing test benches for calibrating the models for medium – high fidelity models at fundamental level. Subsystem level, system level.
- Define best practices for modelling quality, assumptions, validation, documentation, and traceability.
- Track market and industry trends and align the team’s capability development with future technology needs across compressors, vacuum, pumps, hydrogen, CO₂, and energy-efficiency-related initiatives.
Product Focus
- Build reusable model libraries, templates, methodologies, and digital building blocks for faster concept evaluation and technology decision-making.
- Support technology reviews, concept feasibility studies, and early-stage architecture down-selection.
- Ensure strong knowledge management on Product, Process, People, and Tool, and maintain structured project history and learning capture.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure adherence to SOPs, transparent capacity planning, and high-quality delivery standards.
- Drive automation of repetitive modelling activities and improve team efficiency through digital methods and standardized workflows.
- Ensure GECIA KPIs as targeted by Management.
- Strengthen interfaces with testing, product teams, and machine technology teams to improve model validation and technology transfer readiness.
- Strong experience in model-based engineering / simulation / analytical engineering in rotating, reciprocating, flow, thermal, or multi-physics systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and convert ambiguous problems into structured engineering work.
- Good understanding of technology development, product development, and cross-functional collaboration.
- A strong blend of technical depth, people leadership, innovation mindset, and execution discipline.
What we expect of you?
Experience Requirement:
- Experience : 7 – 20 years In Mechanical/ R&D/ Equivalent Engineering/ Technology Domains
- Education : BTech/ MTech/ phD in Mechanical Engineering
- People Management experience is added advantage
- Experience in working with cross functional teams & cross-cultural teams is must.
- First-hand experience of working on NPI/ NPD/ Technology projects is essential.
Knowledge Requirement:
- Excellent knowledge & Experience on Developing Medium – high fidelity 1D models for
- Products Eg – Compressors, Vacuum systems
- Phenomena – Eg: Thermal, leakage, tribology, Heat transfer, Mechanics, Dynamics, Fluid- Structure interactions
- Excellent knowledge on
- Core Mechanical Engineering - is must
- Fundamental physics & applied physics is must
- Engineering Maths and Applied Maths is must
- Computational Sciences is must
- Statistical analysis is added advantage
- DOEs – is added advantage
- Machine learning – is an added advantage
- Good coding & Modelling knowledge on 1 of the following s/w platforms:
- Matlab (is an added advantage)

- Can independently derive governing equations from first principles approach related to:
- Systems in thermodynamic behaviour
- Gas dynamics
- Real gas behaviour
- Interaction of fluid and structure
- Motion analysis
- Kinematic and Dynamic synthesis of a subsystem/ system
- Excellent knowledge & Experience on at least 1 of Compressor/ Vacuum technologies from the following domains:
- Rotory Technologies
- Reciprocating Technologies
- Viscous Pump Technologies
- Good understanding of Atlas Copco Products across Business Areas is an added advantage.
- Excellent knowledge on real gas behaviour and modelling the same at various conditions is must. Gasses like N2, CO2, CH4, H2, He, gas Mixtures etc
- Understanding of Global engineering & Design standards (ISO, DIN, API, ASME etc) is must.
- Good knowledge of AI and use of AI (not limited to Gen AI) in engineering systems is an added advantage.
