Design & Estimation Engineer
Job Summary
We are looking for a Design & Estimation Engineer with 2–4 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, industrial structures, or estimation. The ideal candidate should be capable of interpreting engineering drawings, preparing BOQs and material take-offs, calculating steel quantities and project weights, and supporting accurate project cost estimation.
The candidate will work closely with the design, procurement, and project execution teams to ensure accurate estimation, efficient material utilization, and smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and review structural, architectural, and fabrication drawings.
- Prepare accurate project cost estimates based on drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and detailed Material Take-Offs (MTOs).
- Calculate quantities for structural steel, roofing, cladding, and other project materials.
- Perform steel weight calculations based on drawings and site measurements.
- Analyze drawings and specifications to identify material requirements and project scope.
- Support material planning and cost estimation for structural steel and related works.
- Optimize material consumption and identify opportunities for cost and material savings.
- Coordinate with design, procurement, production, and project execution teams.
- Maintain accurate estimation records, BOQs, MTOs, quotations, and project documentation.
- Compare estimated quantities with actual project/site requirements and update records accordingly.
- Ensure estimates and documentation comply with project specifications, engineering standards, and company procedures.
- Assist in preparing technical and commercial inputs for project quotations and tenders.
- Coordinate with site/project teams for clarification of drawings, measurements, and quantities.
Required Skills
- Good knowledge of structural steel fabrication and estimation.
- Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and fabrication drawings.
- Hands-on experience in BOQ preparation and material estimation.
- Knowledge of steel quantity and weight calculations.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Excel.
- Good analytical and numerical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
- Knowledge of structural steel, roofing, and industrial fabrication will be an added advantage.
Educational Qualification
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience
2–4 years of relevant experience in any of the following:
- Structural steel fabrication
- Industrial structures
- Steel estimation
- Quantity surveying
- BOQ/MTO preparation
- Engineering design and estimation
- Roofing and structural fabrication projects
