The OT Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination, scheduling, and smooth functioning of Operation Theatre services. The role involves managing OT schedules, coordinating with surgeons, anesthetists, nursing staff, and support departments, ensuring optimum utilization of OT resources, maintaining quality and safety standards, and delivering efficient patient care.
- Coordinate daily OT schedules and surgical case allocations.
- Ensure smooth functioning of all operation theatres and related activities.
- Monitor OT utilization and optimize theatre occupancy.
- Coordinate emergency and elective surgical procedures.
- Ensure availability of OT rooms, equipment, and consumables before procedures.
- Verify patient readiness for surgery, including consent forms and pre-operative investigations.
- Coordinate patient movement between wards, ICU, emergency, and OT.
- Ensure timely communication with patients and attendants regarding surgery schedules.
- Address patient and family concerns related to surgical procedures.
- Liaise with surgeons, anesthetists, nursing teams, and technicians for smooth workflow.
- Ensure all required implants, instruments, and special equipment are available.
- Coordinate with Blood Bank, Laboratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Biomedical departments.
- Maintain OT records, surgery registers, and scheduling reports.
- Ensure completion of surgical safety checklists and required documentation.
- Monitor compliance with NABH, infection control, and hospital policies.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
- Monitor OT consumables and coordinate replenishment.
- Track usage of surgical supplies and implants.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and calibration of OT equipment.
- Report equipment breakdowns and follow up for timely resolution.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and OT sterilization standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits.
- Monitor OT turnaround time and efficiency indicators.
- Support implementation of patient safety programs.
- Coordinate OT nursing staff, technicians, housekeeping, and support personnel.
- Assist in manpower planning and duty roster management.
- Conduct regular briefings and operational meetings.
- Facilitate training and orientation programs for OT staff.
