Duties & Responsibilities:
To be punctual in his/her duties and be in proper uniform while in duty.
They will carry themselves in a dignified manner in the public.
Will maintain highest standards of professional competency and medical ethics.
Will be put on rotational duties as per requirement in the hospital.
Will not leave his/her post without giving charge to the reliever. At least one RMO should always be present inside the hospital.
Will take periodical rounds of all admitted patients.
Will be responsible for ensuring discipline among other junior staff posted in his/her department.
To organise and render hospital services according to hospital orders and policies issued by higher authorities.
To ensure that hospital resources are optimally utilised and will ensure economy in functioning.
To ensure prompt treatment of all emergencies.
To respond to calls relating to patient care originating from any department of the hospital.
Will ensure proper replenishment of stocks and proper management of inventory in areas under his/her command.
Will ensure satisfactory transport of patients to other healthcare establishments when such treatment is not available in this hospital.
Will ensure good housekeeping at his place of postings.
Will include attending 'Health/Medical Camps' organised by the hospital. 16. Will carry out health check-ups in the hospital.
Will be responsible for ensuring timely treatment of all patients admitted in the hospital, be it wards, ICU, NICU or casualty as per advice of treating doctors.
May be required to take pathological samples of the patient, draw blood etc.
Will be administering medications if requested by the nurse.
Will be responsible for taking patient's history and examination upon his/her admission.
Will be responsible for completing all admission formalities and preparation of 'Case Sheet'.
They will completely fill up the 'Clinical Assessment Form' part of the IPD case sheet, at the first available time after patient's admission and stabilisation. They will get it counter signed by the concerned Consultant.
Will be responsible for preparing 'discharge summary' of cases under discharge in consultation with admitting consultant.
They will counsel patients on discharge about post discharge medication, diet and other precautions.
In emergency conditions, he will carry out treatment as per his own knowledge and skill.
Will inform admitting consultants of changes in medical condition of the patient.
Will examine patients of the hospital at least twice a day or as often as necessary.
Will accompany the specialists on round, if not preoccupied with more important work.
Will ensure that nurses are carrying out timely treatment as per orders of consultants.
To assist nurses in difficult procedures and even carry out these procedures themselves such as putting an IV line, starting a ventilator, taking an ECG etc.
To undertake emergency procedures such as resuscitation.
Will ensure correctness of diet being given to patients.
Will ensure that documentation (patient file) is complete in all respect and is legibly written.
Will ensure that investigations are being carried out and results are received on time.
He will contact the consultant himself whenever required.
Will not use unauthorised abbreviations and short forms while writing a prescription.
Will be responsible for completing all legal formalities in medico-legal and 'brought dead' cases.
Will implement infection control methods and will ensure compliance of biomedical waste disposal norms.
Will take surprise rounds during night shift duty to ensure availability of staff at their locations and safety of hospital property.
Will ensure that all papers prepared by him are duly signed by him.
To ensure secrecy of medical documents.
To hand over his/her charge to next incumbent properly and completely.
To ensure that all information gathered during the course of examination of a patent is confidential.
To remember that they do not have any admitting rights in the hospital. Patients have to be admitted under care of a consultant.
To comply with hospital policies and procedures.
Will be directly responsible to medical superintendent of the hospital.
Will carry out any other duty assigned by hospital management.
He/she should also be responsible for the conduct of other junior staff posted in his department.
Though they are administratively responsible to hospital managers but for their work they are directly responsible to consultants.
He is responsible for all the patients admitted in his department (Pvt Semi-Pvt, ICU/ICCU or Economy wards) towards proper medical care. Though a patient as always admitted under a consultant, but he being on the spot, will be responsible for either first-aid if conSUltant has not seen the case or for carrying out the orders of that conSUltant.
He will also be responsible for nursing care being provided by the nursing staff. He will ensure that all advised tests and procedures are carried out without any delay.
On admission or in emergency he will always carry out necessary examination and history taking so that the case sheet of the patient is completed in all respect. He will ensure that the patients dOCUments are complete more so in cases of medico legal. He should also make sure that uncommon abbreviations are not used in the case sheet. He will sign the case sheet with his comments during all his rounds.
He will also be providing medical aid to admitted cases under a consultant, in time of emergency, but latter informing the consultant about the action taken. He will also consult the specialists at time of requirements.
He himself should take round of all the patients under his care at least thrice a day and as often as necessary. He will also accompany the consultants, when they come on round and will ensure that all his orders are carried out.
He will ensure that proper diet is being given to the patient as per his medical condition or as advised by the consultant.
Discharge summary of the patient who is going to be discharged is to be prepared by RMO and should be signed by the consultant and RMO both.
He should also interview all the patients who are going to be discharged to get feedback about their opinion regarding their stay in the hospital. This information is taken from patient in writing by asking him to fill the "Patients Suggestion Letter" or verbal and then, he should pass on this information to the hospital administrators.
He will also explain the patient about the precautions and medications to be taken after discharge.
Whenever an infectious case is discharged from the hospital, he will monitor that the room is disinfected and fumigated immediately.
He will perform other duties as assigned to him by his seniors.
A. Professional Duties:
He or she will ensure that documentation in respect of each patient is complete in all respect and legible.
He will ensure that unauthorized abbreviations are not used.
He will sign in full on the patient's case sheet, and will keep patient's papers in safe custody.
He will see all patients in his charge daily and examine them as often as necessary.
RMO will definitely take two rounds in each room/at every patient bed side during their duty.
He will accompany the specialist on his round and ensure that his orders in regard to patient are carried out.
In the absence of specialist, he will himself attend to these cases.
He will ensure that medical records in respect to the treatment of the patient are sent to main reception for billing.
He will be responsible for the staff posted in his ward/department in regard to their discipline, turn out, training etc.
He will perform other duties as assigned to him by the M.S.
One RMO should always be present in the hospital premises and the RMO on duty will not leave his/her post without giving charge to the reliever.
An RMO is responsible for all the patients admitted in the hospital, be it in Emergency, Day care, ICU or the wards. He is responsible for all the medical care, nursing care of the patient, as per patients' immediate needs and consultants' orders.
He will pay particular attention to the medico-legal cases so that accurate documentary evidence is available whenever demanded.
He will ensure that diet prescribed by the consultant is in order.
He will consult the specialist in regard to treatment and disposal of patients. He will interview all patients, who are to be discharged, to
ascertain that they are satisfied. He will also explain them about the post discharge treatment. He will prepare the discharge summary and will get it signed by the specialist in-charge, if required.
Whenever an infectious case is discharged from the hospital, he will monitor that the room is disinfected and fumigated immediately.
Whenever a nurse on duty informs him about the condition of the patient under her charge, it is the duty of the RMO to go to the patient bedside and examine him and contact the consultant himself, if required. The nurse on duty is not authorized to talk to the consultant on telephone for further orders in the management.
Diagnosing the condition of the patient along with the consultant.
Prescribing treatment/investigations/medicines etc.
Informing the consultant regarding the patient's condition and the investigation reports.
Advising/ensuring transfer of patients to various departments.
Writing discharge cards with explicit instructions to be followed after discharge.
Infection control.
Handling emergencies in the ward.
Ensuring medical records are in order/storing and retrieving when necessary.
Managing & reporting accidents, MLC to the concerned persons.
Certifying/Handling death of a patient & informing relatives.
B. Administrative Duties:
Shall include strict adherence to roll calls and attendance everyday and following the roaster system for the field.
Shall include total accountability to the MD/MS for all actions/ responsibilities as the medical field officer during the course of the
contact.
Shall include filling up the leave form for himself and for his staff before any leave.
Shall include proper maintenance and up gradation of the database for the type of patients visited every day and the diagnosis.
Shall include a notice period of one month before terminating the contract.
Shall include providing regular updates to the chief administration regarding the diagnosis and health services being provided to the patients.
Shall include filling up the suggestion form on a regular basis in the interest of the project, in the endeavour to uphold the primary function to provide optimum services to the viflages.
He will be responsible for the staff posted to his department in regard to their discipline, turnout, and performance of duties, training & welfare.
He will be responsible for buildings, fittings, furniture, equipment and stores on charge of the department.
He will ensure that these are in good state of repair/serviceable at all times.
He will investigate losses & damages and take action in accordance with those orders to obtain replacements.
He will implement security and fire orders in the Ward/ Department under his control.
He will carry out periodical checks of equipment & stores on his charge and render reports in accordance with these orders.
He will ensure that sanitation & cleanliness of his areas including annexes are of the highest standard.
He will render such periodical demands, reports and returns as are laid down in these orders punctually and accurately.
He will ensure adoption of all measures for good public relations.
Maintaining daily/up to date medical records.
Or any other duty as assigned by the management.
