Position Title: OT Nurse
Department: Operation Theatre
Reports To: OT In-Charge / Nursing Superintendent / Medical Director

Position Summary
The OT Nurse will be responsible for assisting ophthalmic surgeons and the surgical team in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care before, during, and after ophthalmic surgical procedures. The role will involve maintaining OT sterility, preparing instruments and equipment, assisting during surgeries, monitoring patients, and ensuring compliance with hospital protocols and quality standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesPre-Operative Responsibilities
- Prepare the operation theatre for scheduled ophthalmic surgeries.
- Verify patient identity, consent forms, medical records, and surgical site details.
- Ensure availability and functionality of surgical instruments, consumables, and equipment.
- Assist in patient preparation, including positioning and pre-operative procedures.
- Maintain aseptic techniques and infection control standards.
Intra-Operative Responsibilities
- Assist ophthalmologists during surgical procedures such as cataract, retina, glaucoma, cornea, oculoplasty, and refractive surgeries.
- Arrange and pass surgical instruments and supplies during procedures.
- Monitor sterile fields and ensure strict adherence to OT protocols.
- Handle ophthalmic surgical equipment, microscopes, phacoemulsification machines, vitrectomy systems, and lasers as required.
- Maintain accurate counts of instruments, needles, and consumables.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and support the surgical team as needed.
Post-Operative Responsibilities
- Assist in transferring patients safely to the recovery area.
- Monitor patients for immediate post-operative complications.
- Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
- Prepare OT for subsequent procedures.
- Document surgical records and nursing notes accurately.
Infection Control & Quality Compliance
- Follow NABH, biomedical waste management, and infection control guidelines.
- Ensure proper sterilization and storage of surgical instruments.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits.
- Report incidents, equipment malfunctions, and safety concerns promptly.
Inventory & Equipment Management
- Maintain adequate stock levels of OT consumables and medications.
- Coordinate with stores and procurement teams for replenishment.
- Ensure preventive maintenance and proper handling of OT equipment.
- Maintain inventory records and usage logs.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain OT registers, surgical records, sterilization logs, and inventory records.
- Prepare daily OT utilization reports as required.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information.
Qualifications
- Diploma/GNM/B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid Nursing Council Registration.
- Certification in OT Nursing or Ophthalmic Nursing preferred.
Experience
- 1–5 years of experience in an Operation Theatre setting.
- Prior experience in an eye hospital or ophthalmic OT preferred.

- Ability to operate and maintain ophthalmic OT equipment.

Working Conditions:
The role requires standing for extended periods during surgical procedures, adherence to OT dress codes and infection control protocols, and flexibility to work in shifts, weekends, and emergency situations as required by the hospital.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
