An automotive technician, also known as an automotive mechanic, works on vehicles to repair and maintain them. They work in garages, dealerships, or service centers. Responsibilities
- Repair and maintenance: Perform basic maintenance, such as oil changes, fluid checks, and tire rotations
- Troubleshooting: Use diagnostic equipment to identify problems with the engine, transmission, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, or HVAC system
- Repairing: Repair or replace worn parts, such as brake pads, wheel bearings, and sensors
- Testing: Test parts and systems to ensure that they work properly
- Estimating: Provide estimates of the time and labor required to complete repairs
- Communicating: Explain automotive problems and repairs to clients
- Learning: Continue learning new automotive information and techniques
Qualifications
- A strong mechanical background and relevant practical training
- A keen interest in cars, motorbikes, and other vehicles
- Good mechanical skills and strong attention to detail
- Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools
- Good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity
- Excellent communication skills
