Job Summary
The Histopathology Technician is responsible for processing tissue specimens, preparing high-quality microscope slides, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation while adhering to quality assurance, infection control, and laboratory safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, verify, label, and register histopathology specimens accurately.
- Perform tissue grossing assistance under the supervision of the Pathologist, where applicable.
- Process tissue specimens using automated or manual tissue processors.
- Embed tissues in paraffin wax blocks.
- Cut tissue sections using a microtome with the required thickness.
- Prepare and stain tissue sections using routine (H&E) and special staining techniques.
- Perform immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining as assigned.
- Mount, label, and organize slides for Pathologist review.
- Maintain laboratory instruments, microtomes, tissue processors, and staining equipment.
- Ensure proper storage and disposal of tissue specimens and biomedical waste according to regulations.
- Maintain reagent preparation, stock inventory, and equipment maintenance records.
- Follow quality control procedures and participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
- Adhere to infection prevention, biosafety, and NABH laboratory standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Assist during laboratory audits, inspections, and accreditation activities.
Qualification
- B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) / BMLT / Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) with Histopathology training or specialization.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in a Histopathology laboratory.
- Freshers with Histopathology training may also be considered.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining techniques.
- Familiarity with H&E and special stains.
- Basic knowledge of Immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures.
- Good understanding of laboratory safety and biomedical waste management.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain laboratory documentation and quality records.
Working Conditions
- Hospital-based laboratory environment.
- May require rotational shifts based on departmental requirements.
- Compliance with infection control measures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
