We are seeking an experienced Applications Engineer (CAM) with expertise in CNC machining, CAM programming, and manufacturing process optimisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing efficient machining solutions, generating and validating CNC programs, supporting production teams, and providing technical expertise for machining applications. The role requires strong knowledge of CAD/CAM software, cutting tool technology, CNC machine tools, and manufacturing best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse customer drawings, engineering specifications, and 3D CAD models to determine the most efficient machining strategy.
- Develop, optimise, and validate CNC programs using Mastercam for 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis machining applications.
- Verify and simulate CNC programs using VERICUT to ensure collision-free and optimised machining processes (preferred).
- Provide technical support for CNC machining centres, including HMC, VMC, Turning, and Turn-Mill machines equipped with Siemens, FANUC, and Heidenhain controllers.
- Troubleshoot machining and programming issues, providing practical solutions to improve productivity and machining quality.
- Optimise machining cycles by selecting appropriate cutting strategies, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
- Recommend and support the selection of cutting tools, tool holders, and machining parameters for various materials.
- Prepare machining process sheets, setup documentation, operational drawings, and work instructions for production personnel.
- Develop fixture concepts and manufacturing solutions using AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS.
- Maintain revision control and configuration management of NC programs and manufacturing documentation.
- Collaborate with production, quality, tooling, and engineering teams to improve manufacturing efficiency and process capability.
- Support new product introduction (NPI), prove-out activities, and process validation on CNC machines.
- Provide technical guidance and training to machine operators and production personnel on machining best practices.
Industry Exposure: Aerospace
Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in CNC programming, CAM programming (Master CAM), or manufacturing engineering.
Qualifications
- BE/B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or a related discipline.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes including Turning, Milling, and Multi-Axis Machining.
- Hands-on experience with Mastercam for 3D CAM programming.
- Experience with VERICUT simulation software is preferred.
- Proficiency in Siemens, FANUC, and Heidenhain CNC controllers.
- Knowledge of machining Aluminium alloys, Titanium, Inconel, and other aerospace-grade materials.
- Strong understanding of cutting tool selection, tool holders, machining parameters, and process optimisation.
- Experience in fixture design using AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D models.
