Role Overview
We are seeking an operational and target-driven Workshop Manager to head our Tata Motors Authorized Commercial Vehicle Service Station (TASS) in Korba. In this leadership role, you will oversee all workshop operations across SCV, ILCV, and MHCV segments. Your primary goals are to minimize vehicle downtime (reducing VOR hours), lead breakdown response operations (Tata Alert), drive workshop profitability (labour and parts revenue), and manage relationships with regional fleet owners, transporters, and mining/industrial transport operators.
Key Responsibilities
- Workshop Operations & Flow Management: Supervise daily operations across heavy mechanical bays, inspection pits, accidental repair bays, and the aggregate overhaul section. Optimize bay utilization and technician deployment to maximize daily throughput.
- Uptime & Downtime (VOR) Reduction: Monitor critical Vehicle Off-Road (VOR) cases; coordinate with Tata Motors area teams and the parts department for expedited supply of critical aggregates, maximizing fleet uptime and meeting committed delivery timelines.
- Breakdown & Tata Alert Management: Supervise the 24x7 Mobile Workshop / Breakdown service van; ensure immediate dispatch and adherence to Tata Alert Key Performance Indicators (response time and on-site restoration time).
- Revenue & Business Growth: Achieve monthly workshop targets for labour revenue, periodic maintenance service (PMS), running repairs, and body shop jobs. Drive penetration of Tata Suraksha (Annual Maintenance Contracts) and Fleet AMC packages among local transporters.
- Technical Quality & BS6 Compliance: Ensure compliance with Tata Motors repair SOPs, safety protocols, and quality standards for BS4/BS6 heavy vehicles (including SCR, DPF, and DEF after-treatment diagnostic procedures). Ensure zero repeat repairs.
- Fleet Customer Relations: Handle escalated complaints and maintain direct rapport with local fleet owners, logistics contractors, and institutional transport clients across the Korba industrial and coal-transport belt.
- Team Leadership & Skill Development: Manage, mentor, and evaluate Service Advisors, Floor In-charges, and mechanics. Identify training requirements and schedule technicians for official Tata Motors technical and aggregate certification modules.
- TASS Compliance & Audits: Maintain audit readiness under Tata Motors TASS assessment guidelines (5S housekeeping, tool room maintenance, scrap handling, warranty room protocols, and statutory environmental/safety clearances).
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech / Diploma in Automobile or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: Minimum 6 to 10 years in automobile workshop operations, with at least 3+ years in a managerial or senior supervisory role at an authorized Commercial Vehicle (CV) workshop or TASS.
- OEM Experience: Strong working background in Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles (MHCV/ILCV/SCV) is highly preferred.
- Technical Competence: Solid understanding of heavy vehicle aggregates (engines, gearboxes, differentials, pneumatic brakes, suspension) and BS6 electronic diagnostics.
- Systems Proficiency: Hands-on expertise with Tata e-DMS / CRM and standard MS Office reporting (Excel MIS).
- Licensing: Valid Driving Licence (LMV mandatory; Heavy Commercial Driving Licence preferred).
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
