Burns & McDonnell India (BMI) Power Division is looking for a highly technical Thermal Performance Mechanical Engineer in the Mumbai Office. The Power Division focuses on power generating facilities which offer a wide range of design and project execution experiences. This position is responsible for thermodynamic optimization, conducting feasibility studies, and drive the thermal and process design for various power plants including fluid/thermal analysis of combined-cycle and cogeneration power plants.Candidate will perform work which involves both conventional engineering practices and complex situations, requiring innovation relative to work practices and procedures.
Multi-disciplined power generation projects require engineers to work in a diverse project team environment and exhibit the ability to develop consensus in identifying the optimum solution to complex problems. These complex assignments require the application of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods. Candidate will be responsible for detailed analysis of gas turbine thermodynamic performance, research and development, and diagnostics with proven expertise in combined cycle power plant, gas turbine performance prediction. Position will require extensive interface with client or equipment suppliers/vendors, and with project managers, other engineering disciplines designers, and detailers locally in the Mumbai office as well as remotely in various offices in the United States
Following are some specific duties & responsibilities:
- Coordinating project design assignments and design teams
- Hands-on with Ebsilon, GT PRO, GT master and Thermoflex or equivalent with strong experience in performance guarantee for proposals to client RFP
- Preparing heat and mass balance diagram for combined cycle power plants, simple cycle power plants using GT pro, GT master, Thermoflex or equivalent
- Conduct feasibility studies for existing combined cycle power plants, refineries, open cycle facilities, and waste-to-energy plants
- Gas turbine & HRSG Performance Optimization and efficiency improvement
- Thermodynamic evaluation & optimization of plant performance parameters based on heat and mass balance or Client requirements
- Responsible for optimizing the performance of Gas turbine, Compressor and HRSG with extensive knowledge of thermodynamic
- Should be well versed with Air intake system and Flue Gas Exhaust system of gas turbine
- Provide technical expert solutions for optimization of power plant
- Candidate should have working experience with various gas turbines OEMs like Siemens, GE or MHI
- Providing leadership, guidance, instruction, and mentorship to less experienced staff members
- Regularly meeting and corresponding with clients or outside personnel
- Supporting development and improvements of department standard work procedures and work flows to support a successful work share approach amongst the various offices for all projects
- Travel to the United States as required and requested to support assignments on projects and overall office needs
Qualifications
This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments. Must be capable of interpreting and developing solutions to complex problems. Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering from accredited program.
- Minimum 10-15 years of related experience in fossil generation with exposure to plant thermal performance and optimization.
- Software experience utilizing GT PRO, GT master and Thermoflex or equivalent
- Familiar with power industry codes and standards including ASME B31.1, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sections I and Section VIII.
- Field construction and commissioning experience is preferred.
- Proficient in the English language and must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Previous consulting engineering experience preferred.
