The responsibilities for handling the Door Operating Mechanism (DOM) in railway hopper and discharge wagons (such as BOBRN or BOBYN) involve operation, inspection, and maintenance to ensure safe bulk material discharge.
✦ Operational Responsibilities
Controlled Activation: Operate pneumatic or manual valves to charge air cylinders (typically at 5 to 6 kg/cm²) for opening and closing bottom discharge doors.
Sequence Verification: Ensure piston rods fully retract during door closure so secondary and primary mechanical locks seat securely.
Rake Coordination: Coordinate air pipe charging across the entire wagon rake during loading and unloading.
✦ Inspection and Testing:
Pre-Loading Checks: Test all hopper doors to verify they open, close, and lock properly prior to every loading cycle.
Component Examination: Inspect connecting links, pins, turnbuckles, levers, and hinge assemblies for wear, looseness, or missing cotters.
Pneumatic Leak Checks: Check air hoses, reservoirs, filters, and 4-way control valves for pressure leaks or blockages.
✦ Maintenance and Repairs:
Lubrication: Regularly grease operating shafts, fulcrum bushes, and mechanical gear components (worm/bevel wheels).
Defect Stenciling: Mark and stencil non-operating or welded doors as “CENTRAL DOORS NOT WORKING - DO NOT OPERATE” when immediate line repairs are not feasible.
Sick-Line Routing: Detach and send wagons with warped frames, broken piston rods, or failed locking teeth to the sick-line or workshop during periodic overhauling (POH)
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
