An Electrical Foreman is a highly skilled, hands-on supervisor who leads a team of electricians and apprentices on construction and maintenance sites. They are responsible for managing daily field operations, ensuring all electrical installations are safely completed on time, within budget, and in full compliance with electrical codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Supervision: Assign daily tasks, mentor apprentices, and coordinate workflow among work crews and other construction trades.
- Blueprint & Layout Execution: Read, interpret, and scale electrical blueprints, schematics, and contract documents.
- Quality & Code Compliance: Conduct regular quality control inspections to ensure installations conform to the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other regional safety standards.
- Resource Management: Order, track, and manage electrical materials, supplies, and equipment on the job site to prevent delays.
- Safety Enforcement: Lead safety meetings, enforce OSHA or local HSE regulations, and ensure safe working environments.
- Reporting: Maintain daily logs, report project progress to Project Managers, and draft permits.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Experience & Certifications: Typically requires 5 to 10 years of experience in the electrical trade, with a portion of that time serving in a leadership capacity (such as a Journeyman Electrician). Valid licenses or permits are usually mandated depending on the jurisdiction.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of electrical systems, power distribution, and testing devices.
- Physical Requirements: Must be physically capable of working in challenging environments (e.g., wet spaces, hot attics, trenches), lifting heavy objects, and standing for long periods.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and scheduling skills to handle personnel issues and project changes.
