Position Summary
The Bodyshop Manager is responsible for the overall management and profitability of the body repair and paint shop operations. The role involves planning, organizing, and controlling all bodyshop activities to ensure high-quality repairs, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, revenue growth, and compliance with Tata Motors standards. The Bodyshop Manager leads the body repair, denting, painting, estimation, and insurance coordination teams while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Bodyshop Operations Management
- Plan, organize, and supervise daily bodyshop operations including denting, painting, structural repairs, and vehicle refurbishment.
- Ensure smooth workflow from vehicle reception to final delivery.
- Monitor vehicle movement through all repair stages to minimize turnaround time.
- Allocate jobs effectively based on technician skill levels and workshop capacity.
- Ensure adherence to Tata Motors body repair processes and operational guidelines.
- Manage workshop productivity and maximize bay utilization.
2. Damage Assessment & Estimation
- Review accident repair estimates and approve repair methodologies.
- Ensure accurate assessment of vehicle damages and preparation of repair estimates.
- Coordinate with insurance surveyors for claim approvals and repair authorization.
- Verify labor hours, spare parts requirements, paint material consumption, and repair costs.
- Ensure transparency and accuracy in customer quotations and insurance claims.
3. Insurance Claim Management
- Coordinate with insurance companies, surveyors, and customers for claim processing.
- Monitor claim approval status and minimize delays in repair commencement.
- Ensure proper documentation for cashless and reimbursement claims.
- Resolve claim-related disputes and discrepancies.
- Track insurance conversion ratios and claim settlement performance.
4. Quality Control & Repair Standards
- Ensure all repairs meet Tata Motors quality standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct quality inspections before vehicle delivery.
- Monitor paint quality, color matching, panel fitment, and finishing standards.
- Reduce repeat repairs and warranty claims through effective quality control measures.
- Implement corrective actions for identified quality concerns.
5. Customer Satisfaction Management
- Ensure timely updates to customers regarding repair progress and delivery commitments.
- Handle customer concerns and complaints related to bodyshop repairs.
- Support Service Advisors and CRM teams in resolving customer grievances.
- Monitor customer satisfaction scores and implement improvement initiatives.
- Ensure superior customer experience throughout the repair process.
6. Team Leadership & Workforce Management
- Lead and supervise bodyshop advisors, estimators, denting technicians, painters, helpers, and quality inspectors.
- Set performance targets and monitor employee productivity.
- Conduct regular team meetings to review performance and operational challenges.
- Identify training needs and coordinate technical skill development programs.
- Motivate staff to achieve productivity, quality, and revenue objectives.
7. Productivity & Efficiency Improvement
- Monitor technician efficiency, productivity, and labor utilization.
- Analyze workshop performance metrics and identify improvement opportunities.
- Implement lean workshop practices to reduce repair cycle time.
- Minimize rework, idle time, and bottlenecks in repair processes.
- Optimize resource utilization to improve profitability.
8. Spare Parts & Material Management
- Coordinate with the parts department to ensure timely availability of spare parts.
- Monitor inventory levels of paint materials, consumables, and repair equipment.
- Control material wastage and improve consumption efficiency.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of paints, chemicals, and repair materials.
- Support inventory planning for fast-moving bodyshop parts.
9. Revenue & Profitability Management
- Achieve bodyshop sales, labor revenue, paint sales, and profitability targets.
- Monitor key financial indicators including labor sales, paint material consumption, gross profit, and repair order value.
- Identify opportunities for additional repair work and value-added services.
- Improve insurance business conversion and retail repair revenue.
- Prepare monthly revenue forecasts and business performance reports.
10. Compliance & Safety Management
- Ensure compliance with Tata Motors dealership standards and audit requirements.
- Maintain workshop safety standards and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure proper disposal of hazardous waste, paints, and chemicals as per environmental regulations.
- Conduct safety inspections and risk assessments regularly.
- Ensure all bodyshop equipment is maintained and calibrated properly.
11. Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as:
- Bodyshop Revenue
- Gross Profit Percentage
- Insurance Conversion Ratio
- Repair Cycle Time
- Vehicle Throughput
- Technician Productivity & Efficiency
- Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI)
- Repeat Repair Percentage
- Paint Material Consumption
- Present performance reports and improvement plans to senior management.
12. Tata Motors Standards & Audit Compliance
- Ensure bodyshop operations comply with Tata Motors dealership requirements.
- Prepare the workshop for manufacturer audits and evaluations.
- Implement recommendations arising from audits and inspections.
- Maintain required documentation, records, and operational standards.
- Support dealership management in achieving bodyshop excellence benchmarks.
