Job Purpose
The Lab Assistant is responsible for testing and monitoring water quality at every stage of the treatment and bottling process, maintaining accurate quality records, and ensuring all output meets applicable regulatory standards (FSSAI) before dispatch.
Key Responsibilities
Water Quality Testing
- Collect water samples at each treatment stage: raw/source water, post-filtration, post-RO, post-UV/ozonation, and finished/packaged product
- Conduct physical and chemical tests including pH, TDS, turbidity, conductivity, hardness, residual chlorine, and alkalinity
- Perform microbiological testing for coliform bacteria, E. coli, total plate count, and yeast/mold
- Compare results against BIS/FSSAI standards and flag deviations immediately
Process Monitoring
- Monitor filter performance (sand, carbon, micron) and recommend media replacement or backwashing
- Track RO membrane efficiency and rejection rates
- Verify correct functioning of UV/ozone disinfection systems
- Monitor and log trends in source water quality over time
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain daily/shift-wise testing logs and lab registers
- Prepare Certificates of Analysis (COA) for production batches
- Keep records audit-ready for FSSAI inspections
- Flag and quarantine non-conforming batches before dispatch
Lab & Equipment Maintenance
- Calibrate lab instruments (pH meter, TDS meter, turbidity meter) as per schedule
- Maintain lab cleanliness and sterile conditions for microbiological testing
- Manage reagent and consumable stock; raise reorder requests in time
- Perform basic upkeep of lab equipment (autoclave, incubator, spectrophotometer)
Coordination
- Report quality issues promptly to production and plant supervisors
- Coordinate with QC/QA Manager on batch approvals or rejections
- Support internal and third-party audits with data, samples, and documentation
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or a related science field
- 0–2 years of experience in a water treatment, food & beverage, or QC laboratory
- Familiarity FSSAI norms for packaged drinking water preferred
Skills & Attributes
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in testing and record-keeping
- Basic computer literacy for maintaining digital logs and reports
- Ability to work independently and meet daily testing timelines
- Good communication skills for coordinating with plant and QC teams
- Willingness to work in shifts as per plant operating hours
Working Conditions
- Based primarily in the plant laboratory with periodic visits to the production floor
- Exposure to lab chemicals and reagents; standard safety protocols to be followed
- May require standing for extended periods during sample collection rounds
Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
