JOB DESCRIPTION – PHARMACIST

Reports To: Pharmacy In-Charge / Pharmacy Manager

Job Purpose
To ensure safe, accurate, and timely dispensing of medicines while maintaining proper inventory, documentation, storage, and compliance with applicable pharmacy and hospital standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispense medicines accurately as per authorized prescriptions.
- Verify prescriptions for correct drug, dosage, quantity, and instructions.
- Counsel patients regarding dosage, administration, precautions, and storage of medicines.
- Maintain adequate stock of medicines and medical supplies.
- Monitor expiry dates, batch numbers, and storage conditions.
- Follow FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) and proper inventory-control procedures.
- Maintain pharmacy registers, stock records, purchase records, and dispensing records.
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, purchase, stores, and accounts teams as required.
- Handle controlled/high-alert medicines as per hospital policy and applicable regulations.
- Identify and report medication errors, adverse drug reactions, and discrepancies promptly.
- Ensure proper segregation and disposal of expired/damaged medicines.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the pharmacy.
- Support internal audits, stock verification, and regulatory inspections.
- Follow hospital SOPs, infection-control practices, patient-safety standards, and confidentiality requirements.
Qualifications
- D.Pharm / B.Pharm from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the applicable State Pharmacy Council.
- Previous hospital/retail pharmacy experience preferred.

Experience
0–3 years of relevant experience; hospital pharmacy experience will be an advantage.
