Job Title: Quality Control (QC) Inspector – Thermal / Plasma Spray
Company: Plasma Spray Processors Pvt. Ltd.
Location: MIDC Taloja, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra
Job Type: Full-time
Job Purpose
The QC Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all components treated with plasma spray and other thermal spray coatings meet strict engineering specifications, customer requirements, and international quality standards. This role involves engineering inspection, surface preparation verification, in-process monitoring, and final coating qualification.
Key Responsibilities
- Dimensional & Visual Inspection: Conduct precise visual and dimensional inspections of raw components, machined parts, and finished coatings using micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges, and air gauges.
- Surface Preparation Check: Inspect components post-grit blasting to ensure surface roughness ($R_a$ value) meets the required technical parameters before the coating application.
- In-Process Monitoring: Verify parameters of the plasma/thermal spray process, including gas flow rates, powder feed rates, spray distance, and substrate temperature.
- Coating Qualification & Testing: Perform essential coating quality tests, including:
- Coating thickness measurement (using magnetic or eddy current gauges).
- Micro-hardness testing.
- Bond strength / adhesion testing.
- Porosity evaluation (via microstructure analysis, if applicable).
- Defect Identification: Identify and document coating defects such as delamination, cracks, excessive porosity, pinholes, or uneven thickness, and issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCR).
- Documentation & Calibration: Maintain accurate QA/QC records, prepare inspection certificates (IRs), and ensure all measuring instruments are calibrated according to standard schedules.
- Final Sign-off: Collaborate with the production and machining teams to authorize final dispatch of approved components.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgy, or Production Engineering.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in QA/QC inspection, preferably in Thermal Spray / Plasma Spray coatings, industrial hard-facing, or a heavy engineering/machining workshop.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols.
- Hands-on experience with standard mechanical inspection tools.
- Familiarity with NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) methods like Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT) is a strong advantage.
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems and thermal spray standards (e.g., ISO 14919, ASTM adhesion testing methods).
Key Competencies
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Good communication skills to coordinate between production teams and management.
- Problem-solving attitude with a focus on root-cause analysis.
- Comfortable working in an industrial manufacturing environment (MIDC Taloja).
