Job Description of Mechanical Maintenance Technician
A pharmaceutical microbiologist ensures the safety and quality of therapeutic drugs by preventing microbial contamination. - Quality Control (QC) Testing: Conduct sterility tests, bacterial endotoxin tests, and microbial limit testing on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished pharmaceutical products.
- Environmental Monitoring (EM): Perform routine sampling of air, surfaces, and water systems in manufacturing and laboratory areas to ensure compliance with cleanroom standards.
- Method Validation: Develop, validate, and optimize microbiological testing methods to ensure accuracy and reproducibility.
- Sterility Assurance: Validate sterilization cycles (e.g., autoclaves, depyrogenation ovens) and aseptic filling processes (media fill tests).
- Investigation and Reporting: Investigate any microbiological excursions, contamination events, or Out-of-Specification (OOS) results and prepare documentation in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: A Bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement, though a Master's degree or Ph.D. in Microbiology, Biology, or a related life science is often preferred.
- Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of aseptic techniques, microbial identification, and specialized testing equipment.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Pharmacopeia guidelines (e.g., USP, EP, JP) and regulatory requirements (USFDA, MHRA).
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, high attention to detail, and robust documentation skills to maintain accurate laboratory records.
