Job Title: Laboratory In-Charge

Job Summary
The Laboratory In-Charge is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the hospital laboratory, ensuring accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic services. The role includes overseeing laboratory operations, staff supervision, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance, inventory management, and coordination with clinicians to ensure efficient patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the laboratory.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing and reporting of laboratory investigations.
- Monitor adherence to SOPs, quality standards, infection control, and safety protocols.
- Supervise, guide, and evaluate the performance of laboratory technicians and support staff.
- Prepare duty rosters and manage staff attendance and leave schedules.
- Ensure internal and external quality control (IQC/EQC) procedures are implemented and documented.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring timely calibration, validation, and preventive maintenance.
- Coordinate with biomedical engineers and vendors for equipment servicing and repairs.
- Maintain adequate stock of reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies.
- Verify and authorize procurement requests based on laboratory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with NABL, NABH, and applicable statutory regulations.
- Review and validate laboratory records, registers, and documentation.
- Investigate laboratory errors, incidents, and non-conformities, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with consultants, nursing, and other hospital departments for efficient laboratory services.
- Train and mentor laboratory staff on new techniques, policies, and quality standards.
- Participate in departmental meetings, audits, and accreditation activities.
- Prepare monthly reports on laboratory performance, quality indicators, and operational statistics.
- Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal as per regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical laboratory practices.
Qualification
- B.Sc. MLT / BMLT with relevant experience.
- M.Sc. MLT preferred.
- Valid registration with the Kerala Paramedical Council (if applicable).
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience, including 2–3 years in a supervisory or In-Charge role in a multi-specialty hospital.
- Experience in NABL/NABH-accredited laboratories is preferred.
