Job Description: Cluster Manager - EV Bus Operations and Maintenance
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Public Motor Transport EV Bus Operations and Maintenance Manager to oversee end-to-end management of 2 BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) depots. This role requires a seasoned professional with comprehensive knowledge of public transportation operations, maintenance protocols, and stakeholder management.
Key Responsibilities
Depot Management & Operations
- Oversee complete end-to-end management of 2 assigned BMTC depots
- Serve as single point of contact for all operational activities across both depots
- Coordinate daily bus operations, route management, and schedule optimization
- Monitor fleet utilization and operational efficiency metrics
Stakeholder Management
- BMTC Relations: Collaborate with BMTC depot managers for penalty reduction initiatives and operational improvements
- OEM Relations: Interface with TATA Motors authorities to resolve operational and maintenance difficulties
- Maintain strong working relationships with all external stakeholders and regulatory bodies
Staff Management
- Manage and supervise all depot personnel including:
- Bus drivers
- Operations staff
- Maintenance technicians and mechanics
- Administrative and support staff
- Conduct performance evaluations and implement staff development programs
- Ensure proper training and certification compliance for all staff
Financial Management & Reconciliation
- Oversee invoice data reconciliation for both depots
- Manage penalty reconciliation processes with BMTC and TATA.
- Monitor operational costs and implement cost-optimization strategies
- Prepare financial reports and budget forecasts
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyse operational data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Generate comprehensive reports on depot performance, efficiency metrics, and KPIs
- Implement data-driven decision making processes
- Monitor unit consumption, maintenance costs, and revenue generation
Maintenance Oversight
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed
- Coordinate with technical teams for breakdown resolution
- Maintain compliance with safety and environmental regulations
- Oversee spare parts inventory management
Required Qualifications
Experience & Knowledge
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in public transport operations management
- Previous experience in managing BMTC depots or similar public transport operations
- Proven track record in bus fleet management and maintenance
- Experience in dealing with government transport corporations
- Knowledge of transportation industry regulations and compliance requirements
Technical Skills
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis and interpretation
- Experience with transportation management systems and fleet tracking software
- Knowledge of bus maintenance protocols and technical specifications
- Understanding of route optimization and scheduling systems
Language Requirements
- Fluency in Kannada (mandatory for local communication)
- Proficiency in English (for documentation and reporting)
- Working knowledge of Hindi (for broader stakeholder communication)
Leadership & Management Skills
- Proven leadership experience managing large teams (500+ employees)
- Strong negotiation skills for penalty reduction and vendor management
- Excellent problem-solving and crisis management abilities
- Experience in multi-stakeholder environment management
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Management, or related field
- MBA in Operations Management (preferred)
- Certification in Fleet Management or Public Transportation
- Experience with TATA Motors EV Buses and maintenance protocols
- Knowledge of Bangalore local transportation network
