The SMT AOI Programmer is responsible for creating, optimizing, validating, and maintaining AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) programs for SMT production lines. The role ensures effective defect detection, minimizes false calls, improves inspection coverage, and supports continuous quality improvement initiatives. The candidate will work closely with Production, Quality, Process Engineering, and Maintenance teams to achieve high first-pass yield and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, create, and maintain AOI inspection programs for new and existing PCB assemblies.
- Optimize AOI programs to achieve maximum defect detection while minimizing false calls.
- Perform offline and online programming for AOI machines.
- Validate and release AOI programs during NPI (New Product Introduction) activities.
- Analyze AOI inspection results and continuously improve detection performance.
- Support root cause analysis of process defects identified during AOI inspection.
- Fine-tune inspection parameters, lighting, algorithms, and component libraries.
- Maintain and update component libraries and inspection standards.
- Coordinate with Process Engineering, Quality, and Production teams for process improvements.
- Monitor AOI machine performance and recommend improvements.
- Support troubleshooting of AOI equipment and coordinate with maintenance teams when required.
- Prepare and maintain programming documentation, inspection criteria, and process records.
- Conduct operator training on AOI defect verification and machine operation.
- Participate in customer audits and internal quality audits as required.
- Ensure compliance with IPC standards, company quality requirements, and ESD procedures.
- Support continuous improvement projects to improve yield, reduce escapes, and increase productivity.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related field.
- 2–8 years of experience in SMT manufacturing and AOI programming.
- Experience with AOI platforms such as:
- Koh Young
- Parmi
- Mirtec
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of SMT manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of PCB assembly, component identification, and solder joint inspection.
- Ability to interpret Gerber files, CAD data, BOM, and assembly drawings.
- Knowledge of IPC-A-610 standards.
