An automobile final inspector, also known as a vehicle inspector, ensures that vehicles meet safety and emission standards:
- Inspection: Check vehicles for damage, leaks, and other issues. Test components for wear and tear, and check for improper adjustment.
- Compliance: Ensure vehicles comply with governmental regulations and safety standards.
- Documentation: Prepare reports on each vehicle, and keep records of vehicles inspected.
- Enforcement: Apply inspection stickers to vehicles that pass, and rejection stickers to those that fail.
- Investigation: Investigate accidents and complaints, and prepare detailed reports.
- Communication: Explain and interpret laws and regulations, and communicate with mechanics and fleet managers.
Other responsibilities of an automobile final inspector may include: Changing oil and replacing fluids, Checking preventive maintenance programs, and Notifying authorities of illegal equipment
