Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Integration Engineer with extensive experience in healthcare interoperability, FHIR, HL7, REST APIs, and enterprise integration platforms. The ideal candidate will lead the design, development, implementation, and optimization of healthcare integration solutions connecting EMR/EHR systems, Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), payer platforms, and third-party healthcare applications.
This role requires strong technical expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Apache Camel, healthcare interoperability standards, cloud technologies, and API integration, along with the ability to mentor engineering teams and drive enterprise-scale interoperability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement enterprise healthcare integrations using HL7 v2.x, HL7 FHIR (R4), REST APIs, and integration frameworks.
- Lead solution architecture and technical design discussions for healthcare interoperability initiatives.
- Develop scalable integration services using Java, Spring Boot, and Apache Camel.
- Build and maintain API-driven healthcare interoperability solutions.
- Design and optimize message routing, transformations, mappings, and workflow orchestration.
- Integrate EMR/EHR systems, HIEs, payer platforms, laboratory systems, pharmacy systems, and third-party healthcare applications.
- Implement patient identity management, ADT messaging, scheduling, orders, laboratory results, and clinical document exchange.
- Optimize integration performance, scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and provide Level-3 technical support.
- Conduct code reviews and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and design patterns.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, QA teams, business stakeholders, and EMR vendors.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on healthcare interoperability standards and integration best practices.
- Support DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and cloud-native integration architectures.
- Ensure HIPAA compliance, healthcare security standards, and data privacy requirements are implemented.
- Prepare technical documentation, API specifications, integration designs, and operational runbooks.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 8–12+ years of software engineering experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in healthcare interoperability and enterprise integrations.
- Strong expertise in HL7 v2.x, HL7 FHIR (R4), REST APIs, Java, Spring Boot, and Apache Camel.
- Experience integrating EMR/EHR systems, HIEs, payer systems, laboratory systems, and healthcare applications.
- Strong understanding of Enterprise Integration Patterns (EIP) and middleware architectures.
- Excellent troubleshooting, debugging, and performance tuning skills.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- HL7 FHIR Certification.
- HL7 v2 Certification.
- Epic Bridges Certification or equivalent EMR integration experience.
- MuleSoft or Apigee API Management Certification.
- AWS, Azure, or GCP Cloud Certification.
- HIPAA and Healthcare Compliance training.
- Experience leading technical teams and enterprise integration projects.
