Water Resources Engineer (Remote, Flexible Hours)
We are seeking an energetic, highly motivated, and detail-oriented Water Resources Engineer to join our growing Transportation Water Resources Design team. This is a fully remote position with flexible working hours, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to impactful infrastructure projects while supporting the company’s strategic growth.
This role requires a proactive, self-driven individual with a collaborative mindset and a strong foundation in water resources engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform technical design for a variety of transportation-related water resources projects, including:
- Stormwater management systems
- Drainage design
- Erosion and sediment control
- Stream restoration
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for:
- Culverts, bridges, and drainage systems
- Watersheds and floodplains
- Stream and channel flow studies
- Develop and interpret models using tools such as:
- HEC-RAS (1D/2D), HEC-HMS
- TR-20, TR-55, Rational Method, StreamStats
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings and construction plans using CADD software (AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar)
- Create GIS-based maps and exhibits using ArcGIS
- Support QA/QC reviews of engineering designs, reports, and calculations prepared by internal teams and external consultants
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports related to transportation and water infrastructure projects
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders
- Work under the guidance of senior engineers to develop innovative and practical design solutions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a related field
- 0–20 years of relevant experience (entry-level to experienced candidates encouraged to apply)
- Strong understanding of water resources engineering principles
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with:
- USACE software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HEC-2)
- USDA tools (TR-20, TR-55)
- Hydraulic and drainage tools (HydroCAD, PondPak, HY-8, Abscour)
- Proficiency in:
- ArcGIS (ESRI)
- AutoCAD Civil 3D / MicroStation
- Knowledge of stream restoration practices and design standards
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
