Job Description – PYP Sports Teacher (IB Primary Years Programme)Position
Job Purpose
The PYP Sports Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, inquiry-based Physical and Health Education (PHE) lessons aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). The teacher will foster students' physical literacy, teamwork, confidence, and well-being while creating a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable learning environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver age-appropriate PHE lessons for students in the Primary Years Programme (ages 3–12).
- Design inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with the IB PYP philosophy.
- Develop students' motor skills, coordination, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle habits.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students.
- Integrate physical education with the PYP Units of Inquiry wherever appropriate.
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor and report student progress.
Sports Coaching
- Demonstrate strong coaching skills in Badminton and Football.
- Coach and introduce students to a variety of sports, including:
- Athletics
- Basketball
- Volleyball
- Cricket
- Throwball
- Table Tennis
- Fitness and Conditioning
- Fun Games and Movement Education
- Organize skill development programmes and sports clubs.
School Sports Programme
- Plan and conduct annual sports days, inter-house competitions, sports festivals, and tournaments.
- Prepare and coach school teams for inter-school competitions.
- Maintain sports equipment and ensure safe use of facilities.
- Promote active participation among all students, regardless of ability.
Student Well-being & Safety
- Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment during all physical activities.
- Follow school safeguarding, health, and safety procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments before sports activities and events.
- Provide basic first aid when required.
Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to integrate physical education into transdisciplinary learning.
- Communicate student progress with parents and participate in parent-teacher conferences.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and IB workshops.
- Contribute positively to the wider school community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or a related field.
- B.Ed. or equivalent teaching qualification.
- IB PYP training or experience is preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certification is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience teaching Physical Education at the primary school level.
- Experience in an IB PYP school is preferred.
- Proven experience coaching Badminton and Football.
- Ability to coach multiple sports and organize school sporting events.

- Strong understanding of child development and primary physical education.
- Knowledge of the IB PYP philosophy and inquiry-based learning.
- Excellent coaching skills in Badminton and Football.
- Ability to teach and supervise multiple sports and recreational activities.
