About the Role: Design, build, and maintain Business Intelligence reporting solutions to enable data‑driven decision‑making across the organisation. Develop robust Power BI dashboards, data models, and DAX measures using SQL‑based data sources, under the guidance of the BI Team Lead.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and semantic/data models
Own the full dashboard development lifecycle: requirements gathering data modelling build testing release iteration- maintenance
- Write and optimise SQL queries and stored procedures to extract, transform, and validate data for reporting purposes
- Develop and maintain DAX measures, calculated columns, and Power Query (M) transformations
- Translate business questions into well-structured data models and clear, performant visualisations
- Ensure dashboards are accurate, consistent, and aligned to agreed definitions and reporting standards
- Perform data validation and troubleshoot data quality issues at source
- Maintain technical documentation for datasets, data models, dashboards, and metrics
- Manage dashboard refresh schedules, gateways, and workspace/app deployments, flagging failures or performance issues
- Enhance and refactor existing dashboards and data models based on stakeholder feedback and performance reviews
- Apply and promote BI development best practices around data modelling, DAX, Power Query, and performance optimisation
Decision Making:
- Independently design, build, and maintain assigned Power BI dashboards, data models, and reports within agreed standards and scope
- Investigate data and performance issues and implement or propose recommendations to resolve them
- Select the appropriate data modelling approach, DAX logic, visuals, filters, and metrics to best answer defined business questions
- Prioritise own workload and manage development tasks within agreed timelines
- Recommend improvements to dashboards, data models, documentation, or reporting processe
- Escalate unclear requirements, data limitations, or platform constraints to the BI Team Lead with proposed options
Accountability:
- Accountable for the accuracy, performance, and reliability of Power BI dashboards, data models, and reports produced
- Supports reporting across multiple business areas, contributing to improved visibility and decision‑making
- Responsible for maintaining high data quality and modelling standards within assigned dashboards and datasets
- Contributes to improvements in reporting efficiency, dashboard performance, and adoption of BI tool
- Supports insights and reporting that may influence operational efficiency, productivity, and commercial performance, without direct revenue or budget ownership
What We’re Looking For:
- Typically, 2-3 years’ experience in a Business Intelligence developer, data analyst, reporting, or analytics role
- Hands‑on experience designing and building dashboards, reports, and data models in Power BI (or similar BI tools)
- Experience writing and optimising SQL queries to extract, transform, and manipulate data
- Experience working with non‑technical stakeholders to interpret reporting needs and translate them into technical solutions
- Strong working knowledge of Power BI, including data modelling, DAX measures, Power Query (M), visuals, and report publishing
- Solid understanding of data modelling principles, star schema design, and KPIs
- Working knowledge of SQL (selects, joins, filtering, aggregations, stored procedures)
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy and consistency
- Ability to explain insights and technical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences
- Well‑organised, able to manage multiple dashboards and development requests simultaneously
- Curious, pragmatic mindset with a desire to improve tools, performance, and reporting quality
- Desirable: exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Power Platform, or modern data platforms
- Desirable: experience with Power BI Service administration, gateways, and deployment pipeline
- Desirable: experience with documentation, data definitions, or reporting governance
