Job Summary
Mahalaxmi Industrial Construction Pvt. Ltd. (MICPL) is looking for a Quality Control Engineer to join our structural steel and PEB manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune.
The QC Engineer will be responsible for maintaining quality standards throughout the fabrication process — from incoming raw material inspection to cutting, fit-up, welding, dimensional inspection, surface preparation, painting, and final dispatch.
The ideal candidate should have practical experience in PEB, structural steel fabrication, heavy fabrication, or similar manufacturing operations and should be comfortable working directly on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect incoming structural steel plates, sections and other raw materials against approved specifications and purchase requirements.
- Verify Material Test Certificates (MTCs) and maintain material traceability.
- Conduct stage-wise inspection during:
- CNC plasma / oxy-fuel cutting
- Plate drilling
- Beam fabrication
- Fit-up
- Welding
- Grinding and finishing
- Sandblasting / surface preparation
- Painting
- Final assembly and dispatch
- Check fabricated components against approved fabrication/shop drawings.
- Perform dimensional inspection of beams, columns, rafters, connection plates, stiffeners and other structural components.
- Inspect weld quality including weld size, profile, undercut, porosity, cracks, spatter and other visual defects.
- Verify welding operations are carried out according to approved WPS/PQR/WQT requirements.
- Coordinate NDT activities such as DPT, MPT and UT, wherever required.
- Check hole diameter, pitch, edge distance and drilling accuracy.
- Monitor fabrication tolerances including:
- Length
- Width
- Diagonal
- Straightness
- Camber
- Flange/web alignment
- Connection plate positioning
- Inspect surface preparation before painting.
- Verify blasting cleanliness and surface profile wherever applicable.
- Check DFT (Dry Film Thickness) of primer/paint using appropriate instruments.
- Ensure correct paint system, shade and number of coats as per project specifications.
- Prepare and maintain:
- Inspection Reports
- Dimensional Reports
- Welding Inspection Reports
- Painting / DFT Reports
- Material Traceability Records
- NCR Reports
- Calibration Records
- Final Dispatch QC Reports
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for deviations and coordinate corrective actions with production teams.
- Ensure rejected or non-conforming material is properly identified and segregated.
- Coordinate with production, planning, design, stores, project and dispatch teams.
- Attend client/third-party inspections when required.
- Ensure measuring and inspection instruments are calibrated and maintained.
- Conduct final inspection before material is cleared for dispatch.
- Support implementation and maintenance of company QA/QC procedures and ISO quality requirements.
- Assist in root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for recurring quality issues.
- Maintain proper documentation for project-wise quality dossiers.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering or equivalent.
Experience:
Preferably 2–5 years of experience in:
- PEB manufacturing
- Structural steel fabrication
- Heavy engineering fabrication
- Industrial steel structures
- Similar fabrication/manufacturing environment
Candidates with strong relevant shop-floor QC experience may also be considered.
Required Technical Knowledge
Candidate should have working knowledge of:
- Structural steel fabrication
- PEB components
- Engineering and fabrication drawings
- Welding inspection
- MIG / MAG / SMAW welding processes
- WPS, PQR and WQT
- Structural steel dimensional tolerances
- Vernier caliper
- Micrometer
- Measuring tape
- Welding gauges
- DFT meter
- Surface profile measurement
- Material traceability
- MTC verification
- NCR and corrective action procedures
- Inspection and Test Plans (ITP)
- Quality Assurance Plans (QAP)
Knowledge of relevant IS, AWS or applicable structural steel fabrication standards will be preferred.
