ROLE 1 : PRE PRIMARY MOTHER TEACHER:
A Pre-Primary Mother Teacher is responsible for nurturing and guiding young children in their early educational development, typically in the formative years before formal schooling (ages 3 to 6). The role involves creating a safe, engaging, and stimulating environment where children can explore, learn, and develop social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills. The teacher will focus on holistic child development, using play-based learning to enhance curiosity and lay the foundation for lifelong learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Holistic Development: Ensuring children's overall academic, emotional, social, and physical growth.
- Safety & Hygiene: Maintaining a clean, safe, and child-friendly environment; supervising meal and nap times.
- Daily Routines: Developing and enforcing consistent routines (e.g., circle time, clean-up) to help children feel secure and disciplined.
- Play-Based Learning: Using storytelling, rhymes, games, and "play-way" methods to teach basic literacy, numeracy, and environmental studies.
- Parent Partnership: Conducting Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) and providing regular updates on a child’s progress and behavior.
- Social Skills: Modeling positive behavior and helping children learn to interact, share, and resolve minor conflicts
- Activity Planning: Designing creative lesson plans, teaching aids, and hands-on activities like arts and crafts to develop motor skills.
- Assessment: Observing each child's progress, recording developmental milestones, and identifying those who need extra support.
Qualifications:
- Education: A Graduate degree is often required, typically paired with specialized certifications like Nursery Teacher Training (NTT), Montessori, or Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), Or PPTTC .
The Pre-Primary Mother Teacher plays a key role in shaping young children's first learning experiences, fostering a love for learning, and setting the stage for their academic journey. This role requires a balance of teaching, creating child friendly atmosphere, caregiving, and observation to ensure the emotional, social, and intellectual growth of the children under their care.
ROLE 2 : PRE PRIMARY VICE PRINCIPAL
A Pre-Primary Vice Principal (often also called a Headmistress or Early Years Coordinator) serves as the academic and administrative leader for the kindergarten/nursery section. They act as the bridge between the Principal, the teaching staff, and parents, ensuring the specific developmental needs of young children (ages 3–6) are met with high standards.
- Reports to: School Principal / Head of School
- Primary Goal: To oversee the daily operations of the pre-primary wing, mentor "Mother Teachers," and ensure a safe, play-based learning environment compliant with early childhood regulations.
- Curriculum Oversight: Ensure lesson plans are age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with the school’s philosophy (e.g., Montessori, Play-way, CBSE, IB PYP).
- Classroom Observation: regularly observe classes to ensure teachers are using effective, nurturing teaching methods rather than rote learning.
- Emotional Intelligence: Ability to handle anxious parents and crying children with extreme patience and composure.
- Eye for Detail: Vigilance regarding physical safety hazards (e.g., sharp edges, broken toys) in the school environment.
- Administrative Acumen: Proficiency in using school management software for attendance, report cards, and fee tracking.
- Communication: Serve as the first point of escalation for parent grievances regarding child behavior or teacher performance.
- Admissions: Assist prospective parents during school tours, explaining the pedagogy and settling-in process for new toddlers.
- Orientation: Conduct orientation sessions to help parents understand the school's parenting partnership model.
- Teacher Training: Conduct workshops for teachers on classroom management, phonics, and soft skills; specifically mentoring Mother Teachers on balancing caregiving with instruction.
- Support Staff Supervision: Supervise "nannies" or "didis" (support staff) to ensure hygiene standards in washrooms and dining areas are rigorously maintained.
- Rostering: Manage substitute timetables to ensure no class is ever left unattended, a critical safety requirement for this age group.
