About the Role
We are establishing a dedicated R&D Centre for Road & Dam Construction Machinery in Ahmedabad, with a focus on developing world-class construction equipment and technologies for the Indian and global markets.
This is a unique opportunity to join the founding team of the R&D Centre and contribute to building its design, testing, prototyping, and engineering capabilities from the ground up.
The R&D Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, validation, and continuous improvement of heavy construction machinery and systems, including excavators, dumpers, batching plants, asphalt mixing plants, and related equipment.
The role requires strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, CAD/CAE, testing, field performance analysis, and manufacturing, with an emphasis on developing reliable, cost-effective, safe, and globally competitive equipment.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the establishment of the R&D Centre's design, testing, prototyping, and validation infrastructure, incorporating global best practices.
- Design and develop new construction machinery, attachments, and equipment systems.
- Upgrade and improve existing product lines covering mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Conduct feasibility studies, prototyping, validation, load testing, durability testing, and performance testing under laboratory and actual site conditions.
- Develop engineering designs using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, or equivalent CAD/CAE tools.
- Perform or support engineering analysis including stress, fatigue, thermal, and structural analysis/FEA.
- Work extensively with hydraulic and powertrain systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders, engines, motors, and related components.
- Ensure product designs comply with applicable BIS, ISO, CE, IS Codes, safety, emission, and other regulatory requirements.
- Study gaps between Indian and international standards and support initiatives to bring products closer to global engineering and safety standards.
- Collaborate with Production, Procurement, Quality, Service, and Sales teams to convert prototypes into production-ready products.
- Analyze field failure data, service reports, equipment performance, and customer feedback to identify root causes and implement engineering improvements.
- Drive Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE), material optimization, cost reduction, and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Support vendor development, component localization, import substitution, and indigenization of critical machinery components.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including:
- Engineering drawings
- BOMs
- Design specifications
- Test procedures
- Validation reports
- Technical manuals
- Engineering change documentation
- Monitor international developments in construction machinery, including:
- Automation
- GPS and machine control systems
- Telematics
- Fuel efficiency
- Electrification
- Emission technologies
- Advanced hydraulic systems
- Evaluate relevant international technologies and adapt them for Indian operating and site conditions.
- Support patent identification and filing for innovative designs and engineering solutions.
- Participate in the development of R&D processes, engineering standards, testing methodologies, and documentation systems for the new facility.
Required Qualifications
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Strong interest or experience in construction machinery, heavy equipment, road construction, earthmoving, or dam/hydro construction equipment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems used in heavy construction equipment.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, Creo, or equivalent.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of CAE/FEA and engineering simulation.
- Understanding of relevant BIS, ISO, IS Codes, CE, and other construction equipment standards.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and technical documentation.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Experience in R&D, product development, design engineering, testing, or validation of construction/heavy machinery.
- Exposure to excavators, dumpers, batching plants, asphalt plants, crushers, material handling equipment, or other heavy construction equipment.
- Knowledge of hydraulic circuit design and troubleshooting.
- Experience with ANSYS or similar FEA/CAE tools.
- Exposure to international construction machinery technologies and R&D practices.
- Experience in new product development (NPD) and prototype development.
- Exposure to VA/VE, cost optimization, localization, and vendor development.
- Experience or interest in establishing testing laboratories, prototype facilities, or R&D infrastructure will be an advantage.
- Basic understanding of project management and cross-functional engineering projects.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
