This role supports capital project development and execution across all CPMS phases, as well as brownfield modifications, turnarounds, and in-service equipment support. Mechanical Engineer applies expertise in pressure vessels, piping, static equipment, rotating equipment and auxiliaries, mechanical integrity, and applicable Chevron Engineering Standards (CES) and industry codes and standards to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant mechanical designs and repairs.
Key Responsibilities:
Execution & Engineering Delivery
Provide mechanical engineering support for DM&C capital projects, including concept development, work scoping, design reviews, and execution support.
Review engineering work packages for brownfield projects, maintenance activities, and turnarounds.
Support field engineering activities, including constructability reviews and coordination with site teams.
Design & Technical Scope
Provide technical support for planned mechanical equipment and piping scopes during routine maintenance, controlled work, and turnarounds.
Have a working knowledge of QA/QC requirements for mechanical rotating and fixed equipment. This includes Inspection Test Plan (ITP) development and supporting Factor Acceptance Testing (FAT).
Review and validate mechanical design and analysis for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, and other static equipment.
Review and validate pump design and selection requirements and criteria. Review supplier-predicted performance curves to ensure the curves meet CES and API requirements.
Review and validate finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate stresses, strains, deflections, fatigue, buckling, creep, and fracture mechanics.
Review and validate minimum thickness (Tmin) calculations for piping and pressure vessels in accordance with API 570, API 574, and API 579.
Review supplier pressure vessel and rotating equipment design packages and documentation for compliance with ASME and Chevron standards.
Review and validate post-construction repair solutions (e.g., sleeves, patches, weld repairs) in accordance with ASME PCC-2.
Review and validate Fitness-For-Service (FFS) assessments of pressure vessels and piping per API 579.
Identify mechanical equipment risks and develop mitigation strategies to enable safe and reliable operation.
Support root cause analysis investigations and resolution of mechanical equipment failures or incidents.
Provide support for quality inspections, specification checks, and acceptance of new equipment and materials.
Provide mechanical engineering support to operating assets, including design changes and minor project scopes, long-term maintenance and reliability support, and technical input into mechanical integrity issues.
Review and validate Management of Change (MOC) for mechanical design packages and associated modifications.
Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and multidisciplinary design reviews.

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized (AICTE) university.
Minimum 8 years of experience as a mechanical or static equipment engineer supporting complex refinery, LNG, or petrochemical facilities.
Minimum 3 years of Mechanical experience including brownfield experience.
Proven experience with pressure vessels, piping systems, and static equipment in an operating environment.
Demonstrated working knowledge of ASME and API codes and standards, including ASME Section VIII and API 579.
Preferred Qualification:
10–15 years of mechanical engineering experience in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry.
Strong hands-on experience with pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping, PSVs, valves, and associated static equipment, including Fitness-For-Service assessments and mechanical integrity programs.
Proven experience performing finite element analysis (FEA) using tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or SolidWorks.
Experience using pressure vessel design software (e.g., Compress, PV) and applying ASME PCC-2 post-construction repair methods.
Experience supporting equipment inspections, repairs, and turnarounds at operating facilities.
Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s or Doctorate).
