We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead – Data Engineering & Application Support with strong expertise in data engineering, ETL/ELT development, SQL, cloud data platforms, application/data support, and technical leadership. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing technical leadership across enterprise data platforms and applications involving Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, and Oracle/ODI environments.
The role will involve technical design and implementation, data engineering, production support, incident management, performance optimization, data quality, release and deployment coordination, and mentoring of development teams. The candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, application teams, infrastructure teams, DevOps teams, and offshore/onshore delivery teams to drive technical solutions and ensure operational excellence.
Your future duties and responsibilities
Technical Leadership
Provide technical leadership for data engineering and application support activities.
Own technical design and implementation decisions for ETL/ELT, batch, and near real-time data pipelines.
Review solution designs, technical specifications, source code, and deployment plans.
Establish and enforce development, coding, testing, and production-support standards.
Mentor Senior Developers and other team members on data engineering technologies and best practices.
Lead technical discussions and provide guidance on architectural and design decisions.
Identify opportunities for automation, performance improvement, and operational efficiency.
Data Engineering & ETL/ELT
Design and develop scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for batch and near real-time data ingestion.
Lead data integration across Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Oracle, and legacy environments.
Define appropriate ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and error-handling patterns.
Review and optimize data models supporting analytics and reporting.
Ensure data pipelines meet availability, performance, scalability, and data-quality requirements.
Review and guide the development of reusable data-processing components.
Ensure appropriate logging, monitoring, exception handling, and recovery mechanisms are implemented.
Snowflake / Databricks Technical Leadership
Provide technical leadership for schema design, data modeling, and data engineering solutions.
Design and optimize complex SQL queries, transformations, and data-processing jobs.
Review and guide development of tables, views, schemas, and data models.
Oversee data loading and unloading processes.
Provide technical guidance on stored procedures, scheduled tasks, workflows, and orchestration.
Review and optimize data-processing jobs for performance and scalability.
Implement and review security models, including roles, permissions, and access controls.
Troubleshoot complex Snowflake and Databricks processing and integration issues.
AWS Technical Leadership
Provide technical oversight of AWS Glue jobs and data integration processes.
Design and review Amazon S3-based ingestion and storage patterns.
Apply IAM principles to ensure secure access to AWS resources.
Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting using CloudWatch or equivalent tools.
Troubleshoot failures across AWS-based data pipelines and integrations.
Review file-based ingestion patterns and exception-handling mechanisms.
Provide technical guidance on AWS-based data processing and integration solutions.
Oracle / ODI / PL/SQL
Provide technical leadership for Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) development and support.
Review and troubleshoot ODI mappings, packages, interfaces, and data-processing workflows.
Review and troubleshoot PL/SQL programs, procedures, functions, and scripts.
Provide technical guidance for Oracle database development and administration activities.
Support integration between legacy Oracle environments and modern cloud data platforms.
Analyze and resolve complex Oracle and data integration issues.
Production Support & Incident Management
Lead investigation and resolution of critical production incidents.
Provide technical leadership during high-priority incident and escalation situations.
Perform root cause analysis and identify permanent corrective actions.
Analyze pipeline failures, data discrepancies, performance issues, application errors, and database failures.
Drive problem management and preventive actions to reduce recurring incidents.
Support incident prioritization, escalation management, and technical communication.
Ensure adherence to SLAs and established operational support processes.
Review recurring incidents and identify opportunities for automation and permanent resolution.
Data Quality & Reconciliation
Define and review data quality validation and reconciliation processes.
Investigate data inconsistencies across source and target systems.
Establish controls for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness of data.
Review and guide resolution of data-quality issues.
Ensure data-quality defects are tracked through resolution and appropriate preventive controls are implemented.
Provide technical guidance on data validation and reconciliation frameworks.
Performance Optimization
Identify opportunities to improve SQL queries, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data-processing jobs.
Perform and review SQL tuning and optimization activities.
Analyze job execution times, resource utilization, and platform performance.
Lead performance-tuning initiatives across Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, and Oracle environments.
Implement improvements to reduce processing time, resource consumption, and operational failures.
Support performance testing, benchmarking, capacity planning, and platform optimization activities.
Release & Deployment
Lead technical planning and coordination for application and data releases.
Review deployment scripts, release packages, implementation documentation, and rollback plans.
Coordinate with DevOps, infrastructure, application, and data teams for production deployments.
Ensure production changes follow established change-management processes.
Review technical readiness for releases across Development, Test, and Production environments.
Support post-deployment validation and resolution of deployment-related issues.
Testing & Technical Governance
Review unit, integration, and system test strategies for data pipelines and integrations.
Ensure data transformations and reconciliation results are appropriately validated.
Review defects identified during testing and production and provide technical guidance for resolution.
Establish development and testing standards for data engineering solutions.
Ensure technical documentation, implementation procedures, and operational runbooks are maintained.
Promote adherence to security, access control, data governance, and enterprise technology standards.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
Technical Skills
8–12+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, data integration, and application/data platform support.
Strong hands-on experience in SQL, ETL/ELT, data integration, and data modeling.
Strong experience with Snowflake and/or Databricks.
Strong AWS experience, particularly with AWS Glue, Amazon S3, IAM, and CloudWatch or equivalent monitoring tools.
Strong experience with Oracle databases and PL/SQL.
Hands-on experience with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI).
Experience designing and supporting batch and near real-time data ingestion patterns.
Strong production-support and incident-management experience.
Strong knowledge of SQL performance tuning and data-processing optimization.
Experience with data quality, reconciliation, root cause analysis, and preventive controls.
Experience with release and deployment coordination across multiple environments.
Strong understanding of security, access control, and data governance principles.
Experience supporting enterprise-scale data platforms.
