We are looking for a Project Accountant, to join our growing Finance team in India, located in Mumbai. This position will help further build up a cohesive accounting team that is able to function independently and efficiently.
Your Role
The Project Accountant is responsible for providing a solid foundation of analysis for projects and business practices by managing contracts, ensuring fiscal health of assigned projects, and mentoring and supporting the project management for the Mumbai Office.
What You Will Do
Work closely with Design Managers, establishing successful business relationships and ensuring accurate and consistent billing and financial reporting at the project and studio levels
- Maintain organized project contract files
- Understand contract terms as it relates to fee management
- Assist Design Managers in performing project start-up due diligence and following Firm best practices throughout the project life cycle
- Meet regularly with Design Managers to review schedule, billing and collection issues
- Interact with clients and consultants in a professional, courteous manner
- Review project work plans, budgets, and staffing plans for appropriateness to fee
- Determine and set up best billing terms and invoice formats
- Prepare and process invoices in line with project contractual arrangements (E invoice as well as Deltek Vantagepoint ERP invoice)
- Coordinate consultant invoices and payments per contract terms
- Review project labor and expense charges with Design Managers for accuracy and appropriateness
- Monitor studio accounts receivable and assist Design Managers with collection efforts
- Monitor, analyze, and report on variety of metrics at the studio level to ensure healthy business practices
- Provide training to Design Managers regarding financial maintenance of projects
- Perform review of all expenses charges to projects including employee expense reports
- Develop an understanding of our accounting software and systems so that you are seen as an expert and a resource to our colleagues
- Proactively develop new ideas and solutions to improve financial management
- Forecast actual vs. budget spending and analyze projects to provide actionable insight to project and office leadership
- Cross-train and work closely with other team members so that we function as a cohesive and high performing team. Assist the team with any ad-hoc projects or analysis
- Support Audit/Tax team during Statutory and other Audits.
Your Qualifications
- Possess an accounting or business administration degree with a minimum of 8-12 years’ experience in a professional services environment, preferably with an Architecture, Design or Engineering firm.
- Embrace new technologies and constantly strive for greater efficiencies through process or technology
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage different personality types
- Work well under pressure with multiple tasks and deadlines
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Excel, prior experience with Deltek Vantagepoint software and Coupa Platform is a plus
- Must demonstrate a high level of accuracy and stable work performance
- Respond in a timely manner to vendors, consultants and staff
- Highly Organized
- Must be a self-starter, team player, and detail oriented
- Fluent in reading, writing and spoken English
