Job Summary
The Welding Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and improving welding processes to ensure product quality, safety, and cost efficiency. This role supports production by resolving welding-related issues, qualifying procedures, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
- Provide technical support for welding operations and troubleshoot production-related welding issues.
- Ensure compliance with applicable welding codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWS, ISO, API).
- Evaluate and select welding processes, consumables, and equipment.
- Monitor welding quality through inspections, testing, and process audits.
- Analyze weld defects and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with design, production, quality, and maintenance teams to optimize manufacturing processes.
- Train and guide welders, supervisors, and inspectors on welding procedures and best practices.
- Review engineering drawings and specifications for weldability and manufacturability.
- Support new product development by recommending suitable welding techniques and materials.
- Maintain welding documentation, qualification records, and technical reports.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety, environmental, and quality management systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–8 years of experience in welding engineering within manufacturing, fabrication, oil & gas, pressure vessels, heavy engineering, or automotive industries.
- Knowledge of welding processes such as SMAW, GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), FCAW, and SAW.
- Familiarity with welding metallurgy, heat treatment, and weld inspection techniques.
- Experience with welding qualification procedures and quality documentation.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Good understanding of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Welding Engineer (CWE)
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- CSWIP Welding Inspector
- NDT Level II certification (preferred)
