The Production Supervisor / Production In-Charge is responsible for planning, monitoring, and controlling daily garment production activities to ensure timely delivery, quality compliance, and optimum productivity. The role involves supervising sewing lines, coordinating with cutting, finishing, quality, and maintenance departments, and ensuring smooth workflow while maintaining company quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Execution
- Execute daily production plans as per the approved schedule.
- Ensure achievement of production targets with optimum manpower utilization.
- Monitor hourly production output and line efficiency.
- Minimize production delays, bottlenecks, and downtime.
- Ensure on-time completion of production orders.
Line Management
- Supervise sewing operators, helpers, line leaders, and support staff.
- Allocate manpower according to style complexity and production requirements.
- Conduct line balancing to improve efficiency and reduce idle time.
- Monitor operator performance and provide guidance for productivity improvement.
Quality Control
- Ensure garments are produced as per approved specifications and buyer requirements.
- Coordinate with the Quality department to reduce defects and rework.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions for recurring quality issues.
- Promote Right First Time (RFT) production practices.
Productivity Improvement
- Monitor production efficiency, DHU (Defects per Hundred Units), and line performance.
- Reduce rejection, alteration, and rework through process improvements.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and productivity enhancement.
- Support implementation of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen initiatives.
Coordination
- Coordinate with Cutting, Sampling, Merchandising, Quality, Finishing, Stores, Maintenance, and Packing departments.
- Ensure timely availability of fabric, trims, accessories, and production inputs.
- Report production status and challenges to the Production Manager.
Machine & Maintenance
- Ensure proper utilization of sewing machines and equipment.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance team for preventive maintenance and machine breakdowns.
- Minimize machine downtime to maintain production flow.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily production reports, efficiency reports, attendance, and rejection records.
- Prepare hourly production updates and production MIS.
- Track WIP (Work in Progress) and ensure smooth production flow.
Team Management
- Train new operators on production methods and quality standards.
- Maintain discipline, teamwork, and a positive work environment.
- Evaluate operator performance and recommend skill development.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with company SOPs, safety policies, and housekeeping standards.
- Promote safe working practices and maintain a clean production floor.
- Ensure adherence to 5S and workplace discipline.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of garment production processes.
- Experience in women's ethnic wear manufacturing (Kurti, Suit Sets, Co-ord Sets, Dresses, etc.).
- Expertise in line balancing and production planning.
- Understanding of sewing operations, garment construction, and quality standards.
- Good leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under production deadlines.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and production reporting.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in export or domestic garment manufacturing units.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and Industrial Engineering concepts.
- Ability to manage multiple production lines and large operator teams.
Reporting To: Production Manager / Factory Manager
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing environment with frequent shop floor supervision.
- Flexible to work overtime or additional shifts during peak production periods.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
