The IBM i / VIOS Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of IBM Power logical partitions (LPARs) and Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) environments supporting critical enterprise workloads. This role works closely with architecture, storage, networking, security, and application teams to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available IBM Power infrastructure.
The engineer will build new IBM i and VIOS partitions, configure virtualized storage and networking resources, support hardware migrations, and ensure partition environments remain compliant, performant, and operationally resilient. Responsibilities include participation in major infrastructure initiatives such as Power hardware refreshes, data center migrations, disaster recovery readiness, and operating system modernization efforts
Positions in this function design, engineer, and manage the organization's infrastructure and operational platforms. From a cloud services model, this includes services commonly thought of as IaaS and PaaS and their underlying foundational components. Additionally, this function also has responsibility for traditional enterprise infrastructure and operational platforms such as email, file transfer, and collaboration technologies, among others. This role must understand functional and non-functional requirements to ensure they can be achieved through system design and engineering to meet the needs of the customers. Work closely with business and technology stakeholders to develop roadmaps for their respective technology portfolios, resolve cross-system and domain dependencies, ensure effective integration among the services offered to the end customer, and efficient usage of infrastructure and operational platforms. Monitor technological advancements and industry trends to influence company standards and ensure that solutions are continuously improved and maintained through product management practices, including recommendations to invest in a solution or retirement of redundant or out-of-date systems. Understand the interactions between systems, the applications and services hosted, and evaluate the impact of changes and additions. Perform analysis on existing systems to ensure performance and reliability, enhance scalability, meet security requirements, and interoperable and maintainable technology portfolio. Generally work is self-directed and not prescribed.

Required Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience

8+ years of IBM Power Systems administration experience

Hands-on experience building and configuring IBM i LPARs

Experience administering VIOS environments

Experience supporting high-availability and disaster recovery environments

Knowledge of PowerVM virtualization technologies

Understanding of SAN storage concepts and enterprise storage integration

Proven solid troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills

Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Power10 and Power11 platforms

Experience with NPIV, vSCSI, virtual Ethernet, and SR-IOV networking

Experience with DB2 Mirror, Global Mirror, Metro Mirror, or replication technologies

Experience supporting large-scale enterprise IBM i environments with hundreds of partitions

Knowledge of IBM i 7.4, 7.5, and newer releases

Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible

Knowledge of performance tuning and capacity planning

Understanding of security controls and regulatory compliance requirements
