Job Summary
The Legal Officer will be responsible for handling all legal matters related to University employees, ensuring compliance with applicable labor laws, employment regulations, University statutes, UGC regulations, and other statutory requirements.
The role involves providing legal advice on staff-related matters, drafting and reviewing legal documents, handling disciplinary proceedings, and representing the University in employment-related legal cases.
Designation : Legal Officer / Lawyer (HR & Employment Matters).
Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized University.
- Master's Degree in Law (LL.M.) preferred.
- Enrollment with the Bar Council is desirable.
Experience
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in handling employment and service-related legal matters.
- Experience in Higher Education Institutions, Universities, Government Organizations, or large corporate establishments preferred.
- Proven experience in labor laws, disciplinary proceedings, and employment litigation.
Key Responsibilities
Employment & Service Matters
- Provide legal guidance on employee recruitment, appointments, confirmations, promotions, transfers, and separations.
- Advise the University on employment laws, labor regulations, and service rules applicable to academic and non-academic staff.
Disciplinary & Grievance Matters
- Handle disciplinary proceedings, domestic inquiries, and misconduct cases involving staff.
- Draft show-cause notices, charge sheets, warning letters, suspension orders, and termination notices.
- Provide legal opinions on employee grievances, misconduct issues, and disciplinary actions.
- Assist disciplinary committees and inquiry committees in conducting proceedings as per legal requirements.
Litigation & Legal Representation
- Coordinate and manage legal cases involving employees before courts, tribunals, labor authorities, and other statutory bodies.
- Liaise with external advocates and legal consultants for case management.
- Prepare case briefs, affidavits, replies, and legal documentation.
- Monitor ongoing litigation and maintain records of legal proceedings.
Compliance & Regulatory Matters
- Ensure compliance with UGC, AICTE, State Government, Central Government, and other regulatory requirements relating to employees.
- Conduct legal audits and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
