Job Description:
Job Title: Physiotherapist – LCA
Location: Anekal
Reporting to: Project Manager / Sr. Physiotherapist
1. Job Purpose
To plan and provide physiotherapy and comprehensive rehabilitation services for children and adults with disabilities in a community-based approach. The role focuses on improving functional abilities, independence, and quality of life through home-based, centre-based and community-level interventions, in coordination with a multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Clinical Assessment and Intervention

Conduct detailed physiotherapy assessments for children and adults with various disabilities (neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, stroke, spinal cord injuries, etc.).

Develop individualized therapy plans (ITPs) with clear functional goals, timelines, and outcome indicators.

Provide regular physiotherapy sessions (centre-based, home-based and field visits) using evidence-based techniques.

Train and guide caregivers and family members on home exercise programmes, positioning, handling, and daily living activities.

Monitor and document progress of beneficiaries and modify treatment plans as required.
B. Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Activities

Participate in community surveys, screening camps and outreach visits to identify people with disabilities.

Work closely with community workers, ASHA, Anganwadi workers, village volunteers, and local leaders to promote early identification and timely referral.

Support community-based follow-up of beneficiaries to ensure continuity of care and adherence to therapy through community rehab workers

Promote inclusion of persons with disabilities in Anganwadi centres, schools, livelihood activities, and community events.
C. Assistive Devices and Mobility Aids

Assess the need for mobility aids and assistive devices (wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, AFOs, splints, CP chairs, standing frames, etc.).

Provide measurements, trial, fitting, and basic training in the use and maintenance of assistive devices.

Coordinate with vendors, organisations and donors for procurement and distribution of aids and appliances with help project coordinator

Follow up on usage, safety, and effectiveness of mobility aids in the community.
D. Capacity Building and Training

Conduct training sessions for caregivers, community workers, Anganwadi staff, teachers, and other frontline workers on:

Basic physiotherapy & home-based care
-
Prevention of deformities and contractures
-
Safe transfers and positioning
-
Early identification of developmental delays
-
Prepare and use IEC materials (posters, flip charts, videos, handouts) for awareness and education.
E. Documentation, Reporting and Data Management
-
Maintain accurate and updated records of assessments, intervention plans, follow-up notes, and outcomes.

Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports for the project and donors as required.

Contribute to case studies, success stories, and best practices documentation.

Ensure data confidentiality and ethical handling of beneficiary information.
F. Coordination and Networking

Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, psychologist, social worker, special educator, community workers).

Coordinate referrals to hospitals, rehabilitation centers, specialists, government departments and social security schemes.

Participate in review meetings, case conferences and community coordination meetings.
G. Quality, Safeguarding and Compliance

Follow clinical protocols, ethical standards and safety guidelines of the organisation.

Ensure child protection and safeguarding principles are followed at all times.

Support the organization in maintaining project and donor compliances related to rehabilitation services.
3. Qualification and Experience
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Physiotherapy (BPT / MPT) from a recognized institution.

Registration: Valid registration with the respective State Physiotherapy Council (as applicable).

Experience:
-
Minimum 0– 1 years of experience in physiotherapy, preferably in community-based rehabilitation / disability sector / NGO / hospital setting.

Experience in working with children with developmental disabilities and adults with Neuro and ortho conditions will be an added advantage.
4. Skills and Competencies
-
Strong clinical skills in assessment, goal-setting and intervention for persons with disabilities.

Ability to work in field settings, conduct home visits and travel within the community.
-
Good communication and counseling skills with children, families, and community stakeholders.
-
Proficiency in local language and basic English (reading and writing reports).

Ability to train and guide community workers and caregivers.
-
Good documentation and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, basic data entry).
-
Strong teamwork, empathy, patience and problem-solving skills.
