The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth by acquiring new customers and expanding business with existing clients in freight forwarding, logistics, customs clearance, warehousing, and supply chain solutions. The role focuses on identifying market opportunities, developing strategic relationships, and achieving sales targets while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
* Identify and develop new business opportunities in air freight, sea freight, road transport, warehousing, and customs brokerage.
* Generate leads through networking, market research, referrals, and industry events.
* Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline.
* Prepare and deliver sales presentations and logistics solutions to prospective clients.
* Negotiate pricing, contracts, and service agreements.
* Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets.
Customer Relationship Management
* Develop long-term relationships with key customers.
* Understand customer logistics requirements and propose tailored solutions.
* Conduct regular client visits and business reviews.
* Handle customer concerns and coordinate with operations teams for timely resolution.
Market Analysis
* Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and market developments.
* Identify emerging business opportunities and target industries.
* Provide market intelligence and recommendations to management.
Proposal & Tender Management
* Prepare quotations, proposals, and responses to RFQs/RFPs.
* Coordinate with pricing, operations, and finance teams to develop competitive solutions.
* Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and sales activities.
Internal Coordination
* Work closely with operations, customer service, and finance departments to ensure service delivery.
* Support implementation of new customer accounts.
* Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
* New customer acquisition.
* Revenue growth and gross profit generation.
* Customer retention rate.
* Sales pipeline value.
* Conversion rate from leads to customers.
* Number of client visits and business meetings.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, or related field.
* 5–10 years of sales/business development experience in freight forwarding, logistics, shipping, or supply chain services.
Required Skills
* Strong knowledge of international freight forwarding (Air & Ocean Freight).
* Understanding of Incoterms, customs procedures, and global trade regulations.
* Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
* Proven track record of achieving sales targets.
* Strong presentation and relationship-building abilities.
* Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
* Ability to travel frequently for client meetings.
