Purpose of the Role
To ensure that the cheese manufacturing facility operates in full compliance with all applicable food safety, regulatory, legal, licensing, and certification requirements. The officer coordinates inspections, audits, documentation, and regulatory submissions while maintaining compliance with national and international standards.
Key Responsibilities1. FSSAI Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India regulations.
- Maintain validity of FSSAI licenses and registrations.
- Monitor changes in food regulations and implement necessary updates.
- Ensure proper product labeling, declarations, and packaging compliance.
- Coordinate product approvals and regulatory submissions when required.
2. Food Safety Management System
- Maintain and update:
- HACCP plans
- GMP programs
- GHP programs
- SOPs and work instructions
- Conduct compliance verification across production, packaging, storage, and dispatch operations.
- Monitor implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
3. Audit Management
- Coordinate internal audits.
- Prepare the facility for:
- FSSAI inspections
- Third-party audits
- Customer audits
- Certification audits
- Act as primary liaison during audits.
- Ensure timely closure of audit observations and non-conformities.
4. Certification Management
Maintain compliance and documentation for certifications such as:
- HACCP
- ISO 22000
- FSSC 22000
- GMP
5. Documentation & Record Control
- Maintain master regulatory documentation.
- Control SOPs, specifications, manuals, and records.
- Ensure traceability records are complete and readily available.
- Maintain retention schedules for quality and compliance documents.
6. Regulatory Inspections
- Coordinate visits from:
- Food Safety Officers
- Dairy Department officials
- Local authorities
- Export inspection agencies
- Prepare responses to notices, observations, and compliance requirements.
- Follow up on regulatory commitments.
7. Product Compliance
- Verify ingredient approvals and supplier compliance.
- Review cheese formulations for regulatory conformity.
- Ensure label claims are substantiated and legally compliant.
- Monitor compliance of imported ingredients and cultures.
8. Training & Awareness
- Conduct compliance training programs for staff.
- Educate employees on food safety regulations and audit requirements.
- Maintain training records.
9. Environmental & Legal Compliance
- Monitor statutory requirements related to:
- Waste disposal
- Effluent treatment
- Water quality
- Pollution control permissions
- Coordinate renewals and submissions to regulatory authorities.
10. Customer & Export Compliance
- Respond to customer compliance questionnaires.
- Support export documentation and country-specific regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate compliance requirements for international buyers.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Zero major regulatory violations.
- Timely renewal of all licenses and permits.
- Successful completion of internal and external audits.
- Closure of audit non-conformities within target timelines.
- 100% compliance documentation availability.
- No product recalls due to regulatory non-compliance.

- B.Sc./M.Sc. Food Technology
- Dairy Technology
- Food Science
- Biotechnology
Experience
- 2–5 years: Regulatory and quality compliance in dairy/food industry.
