Job Summary
The Civil Lab Technician is responsible for conducting laboratory and field tests on construction materials to ensure compliance with approved specifications, drawings, and relevant IS codes.
Key Responsibilities
Material Testing
- Conduct tests on cement, sand, aggregates, concrete, soil, and water as per IS codes.
- Perform sieve analysis, specific gravity, water absorption, and moisture content tests.
- Carry out soil tests such as field density, moisture content, and CBR (where applicable).
Concrete Testing
- Perform slump test during concreting operations.
- Cast, cure, and test concrete cubes at 7, 14, and 28 days.
- Maintain cube casting and testing registers.
- Monitor concrete quality during batching, transportation, placement, and finishing.
Quality Control & Site Coordination
- Assist QA/QC engineers in monitoring quality at site.
- Report non-conforming materials or test failures immediately.
- Coordinate with site engineers and batching plant teams during concreting.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain test reports, lab registers, and calibration records.
- Prepare daily test reports for submission to consultants/clients.
- Assist during inspections, audits, and quality reviews.
Equipment & Safety
- Ensure proper handling, maintenance, and calibration of lab equipment.
- Follow safety norms and laboratory best practices.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the laboratory.
Standards & Compliance
- Follow IS Codes, MORTH / CPWD / IRC specifications (as applicable).
- Adhere to approved Quality Assurance Plan (QAP).
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma / ITI / B.Sc. in Civil Engineering or relevant field.
- 4–6 years experience in civil construction laboratory or site QA/QC.
Skills Required
- Knowledge of civil material and concrete testing.
- Understanding of IS codes and QA/QC procedures.
- Basic computer skills for reporting.
- Ability to work under site conditions.
