We are seeking a Senior Teacher who combines warmth, structure, and a genuine love of working with children to help shape a programme that families trust and children love.
Role Summary
The Senior Teacher – After School Programme works closely with the After School Programme Head to plan, deliver, and continuously improve after school offerings. This role involves direct teaching, curriculum delivery, parent engagement, and day-to-day coordination. The Senior Teacher is a visible, dependable presence for students and families, and a collaborative partner to the Programme Head.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Delivery & Teaching
- Plan and conduct engaging, age-appropriate classes across programme offerings (academic support, arts, sports, cultural activities, and enrichment).
- Deliver curriculum with clarity, creativity, and consistency, adapting content to meet the needs of different age groups and learning styles.
- Maintain an organised, safe, and welcoming learning environment during all programme sessions.
- Support and supervise students across the programme duration, including transition periods and free time.
- Co-create and refine curriculum content in close collaboration with the Programme Head.
Programme Coordination & Support
- Assist the Programme Head in scheduling, logistics, and day-to-day operations of the after school programme.
- Step in to lead or manage sessions when the Programme Head is unavailable.
- Track student attendance, participation, and progress; maintain accurate records.
- Coordinate with subject teachers and class teachers to align after school content with the school day where relevant.
- Support the planning of special events, showcases, and programme-related activities.
Parent Interaction & Communication
- Build warm, professional relationships with parents and caregivers.
- Communicate student progress, participation, and any concerns to parents in a timely and constructive manner.
- Participate in parent meetings, feedback sessions, and open days related to the After School Programme.
- Respond to parent queries with clarity and care, escalating to the Programme Head when needed.
- Represent the programme positively in all parent-facing interactions.
Student Support & Wellbeing
- Know every child in the programme by name and be attentive to their individual needs, moods, and strengths.
- Create an inclusive, affirming environment where all children feel safe and valued.
- Address behavioural concerns with consistency and empathy, using restorative approaches.
- Identify students who may need additional support and communicate observations to the Programme Head or relevant school staff.
Professional Practice
- Maintain high standards of conduct, punctuality, and professional presentation.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
- Contribute ideas and feedback to programme improvement and innovation.
- Uphold the values and ethos of The New School Madurai in all interactions.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of teaching or programme facilitation experience
- Demonstrated ability to engage and manage children across age groups
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in English and Tamil
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Experience in enrichment, arts, sports, or special interest programmes
- Familiarity with progressive or alternative education approaches
- Prior experience in after school or extended day programmes
- Background in child development, inclusion, or special education

Working Hours & Conditions
Working hours are as follows, with flexibility as required by programme needs:
● Monday to Friday: 1:00 PM – 7:30 PM (including After School Programme: 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM)
● Saturday: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM
